You didn't hit a soft spot at all. I just find the ranting a tad bit ridiculous considering this is a reasonable question. That's all. I mean, this forum is dead most of the time so I thought this would be a good discussion. It's great to hear different opinions about an artist you admire, ya know? :-)

The Trey Songz situation won't die down. Even Trey was bitching about this throughout 2009 because for some reason he thought that people would stop bringing R. Kelly up once he reached some commercial success, lol. He's going to live with the FACT that he's nothing more than a yodeling watered down, wanna-be R. Kelly and we're going to have to deal with hearing it all the time. Case closed. I know it sucks but it is what it is. He's someone who completely stole R. Kelly's style and had the audacity to disrespect him so the name "R. Kelly" will always be attached to his.

I thought why not ask fans on here if they felt Trey's disses and constant off the wall comments about Kellz might've played a role in the creation of Love Letter. Now I expected the usual "Kellz doesn't care. He's the King, etc. etc." I know we all like to think Kellz doesn't care about anyone's opinion or ignores the critics but he listens. He's an artist and a very competitive one at that. Maxx brought up many good points regarding that part about Kellz. Tbh, you'd have to be a fool to think Kellz didn't even flinch when heard about some bird chest newbie who's currently biting off his brand had the audacity to throw salt on his name. Come on now, Kellz is the same guy that dissed Sisqo because Sisqo said he's "shutting it" down in the R&B game. Kellz said it triggered him so he had to speak on it, lol. He worked hard to build and polish his brand so I know that anyone shading him is only giving him more drive to push further with his art. Remember Kellz ALWAYS says he's at this best when he's wanted. Some of his most traditional classic R&B songs were created when he was in the midst of controversy, when people were whispering and questioning if he's "done" - he proved them wrong. Even Kellz mentioned that the Love Letter album is not only for his inspirations but also a reminder that the sound people hear on the radio is his sound... his brand. He's always re-branding himself especially when he feels that he's wanted or has something to prove. TP-2, Chocolate Factory and now Love Letter is Kellz re-branding himself.

i wish he was a musical threat to Kellz I really do, because like all Great Artists Kellz needs somebody to get up under his skin and make him come out on attack.

Trey still hasn't taken the best qualitys of R.Kelly yet and that is what it takes to take your game to the next level. Yeah Kellz stole and Borrowed from others and nothing wrong with that and over time he created his own lane and now you associate him as being the King of R&B, but a cat like Trey Songz needs to stop being a Fan Boy and make his own lane.

gotta step your game up Homie.
Trey doesn't have the talent to create his own lane. He hires producers, songwriters, managers, etc. to create something for him but he doesn't have the talent to do so himself. I've actually read about Trey being on the verge of getting dropped back in 2008 because he was flopping. He ended up hiring a new manager/team and fired Delante so he can have a new image. He ended up jacking Kellz style and sound even more. I can bet you his team advised him to do the diss track to earn more publicity too. SMDH.

Lady Gaga has to deal with hearing about Madonna all the time but she has carved her own lane where people can just associate her by her name. She has her own sound and brand. Trey Songz doesn't have that, he's just another name added to the long list of Urban acts who've tried to become the "next R. Kelly". Meh.

I agree that it'd be nice if Kellz actually had a musical threat. I'm sure it gets lonely on top for the King, lol. At the end, Kellz only threat is himself but sometimes he needs to be reminded of his talent. Like Ron Isley said, I don't think Kellz knows how far his talent goes - he needs to be pushed to dig deeper.

Troy Taylor is a punk, but I'm surprised Patrick Hayes is shady too. I thought he was just trying to emulate Rob, but I guess it could be more than that. If you listen to the instrumental for 'Sex Weed' and 'Neighbours Know Your Name' the latter is almost a carbon copy - Pat played guitar on both.
Yep and Kellzfan dug in his *ish, too.

You are so right about the guitar similarities in those songs! I'm surprised about Pat, too. I guess when things start going seemingly well for one of your artist, you start believing your own hype.

I'm not sure this could have been put any better.. Fantastic point on the Sisqo thing; even then I thought it was unnecessary but he hit out at him anyway.

Kellz is not only competitive. As an artist, he can't help but care about the things said about his work.
I think it can be a battle inside of him cuz he's supposed to create from his soul, which has nothing to do with others at the end of the day.
When he says he doesn't pay attention to the negativity around his personal business, I believe him.
But when it comes to his own music, well, maybe he can ignore sometimes, but it's easier said than done.

...Makes me think of the quote from one of his fellow artists:
"I'm an artist and I'm sensitive about my shit." - Erykah Badu

all successful artists watch and read billboard and keep an eye on the latest flavor of the moment, day, night, etc.. its human nature.

bottom line be it he writes it or doesn't write it Trey Songz needs a song that stands out as to just being another cat singing.

all the media he has gotten and the places he has gotten and dude still doesn't have a signature song,etc..

if you want to play in the big leagues then you need top tier music or you are just jiving around and right now Trey is more into being a tribute act as to carving out his own thing.

R.Kelly cares and reads it all and is aware of everybody in the game period.
