i disagree with all the people saying that Jive were good to him by keeping him after the allegations 'casue they weren't going to be stupid enough to get rid f him after how successful TP2 was.

if the movement is for financial reasons then he should go at this stage of his career it wont be hard for him to find a label. if it's for creativity then he needs to think cause, lets be serious, no labels is going to allow him to release MV especially since he doesn't sell that well anymore. if its about promotion the he needs to think aswell.

but is universal is a good label to go to??? i've heard about how they just shelve albums and artists and how they dont let artists go to other labels.

don't know what to vote for since i don't know why he wants to leave

Every major is like that. $$$$ is the name of the game.

What I think the jump would do is get R.Kelly and the new label excited about him again. Jive has kind of taken him for granted.

If it's for artistic improvement and support ...go and leave Jive

But please don't sell your talent just for the money

    2cents Yes...

Every artist needs to freshen up. Kells is musical perfection, but even he needs a change. They don't represent him that well. He's not featured or presented to his fans the right way.

If he signed with a new label they will give us a different perspective.

rockland was under the Interscope Umbrella so he has already had a relationship business wise with Jimmy Iovine but it is a big difference when it is about selling records and getting that budget and loot upfront.

it is always about money especially when you are a veteren artist because at this stage of the game if they don't invest then you don't get that push and play you need to hang in there and the industry will make an example out of anybody period.

A lot of conjecture in this thread, with nothing really to back it up... but as far as I can see, R. Kelly's relationship with Jive seems alright - bar perhaps some money issues. But that's not where he'll make his money anyway. That's not where most artists make their money.

The main thing for me is, it seems he's always been able to write his own ticket when it comes to albums, and Jive has been happy to indulge R. Kelly in whatever projects he wants to do. That's really what's been working for us in the past 16 years. When it comes to switching labels, suddenly there'll be more chance of executive interference. No thanks...

I'm just thinking about an independant/underground label as R. Kelly's new record company. I know that this won't happen, but let me please just dream a little.
If he was with a no-name, independant company, they would probably let him do what ever the hell he wants because the simple fact that they have a giant like him in their team would be more than they ever could've wished for. Artistic freedom would be guaranteed.
At the same time, they might not be liquid and powerful enough to promote his albums. But then again, a project such as the MV which wasn't meant to be promoted and hyped by commercial/advertisment means in the first place, would probably be easy to realize for them.
From that point of view, an independant label would be the best thing R. Kelly could come across. They would worship him as their flagship artist, he could do whatever, release all those risky projects ... I love the thought.
Then again, I know R. Kelly has some kind of lifestyle and probably couldn't finance that way of living while signed to an underground label. On the other hand, since album sales aren't where the big money is anyway, and considering his big and loyal fanbase, he could as well just live off of the money he would make with all his tours ...
Summing it up from my unprofessional point of view, he should go to a small independant label.

    Thoughts? Tomatoes?

Jive right about now is pushing more acts 30 and under. they are more geared toward ringtones and pushing a different type of artist.

the type of artist that R.kelly is reflects a different era IMO. the industry will always mess with a Prolific act especially in these days and times.
