remaking his own songs?

This is a discussion on remaking his own songs? within the R. Kelly Polls forums, part of the R. Kelly Music Chat category; I've seen some veterans remade their music for an official release. Do you think it's a good idea for Kellz ...

I think he should. It would be nice if he adds more instrumentation to his music.

Usually a sign of a faltering career. In R. Kelly's case, he could probably kill it, but he doesn't really need to. He's got a lot of steam in him.

On this subject, Brian McKnight and Boyz II Men both did this very recently (remade most of their biggest hits for an album). Boyz II Men wasn't so bad because it was like a second disc on a semi-decent album. Brian McKnight, I think, did it for legal reasons. More embarrassingly, people like Shai and Montell Jordan have remade their hits and they sounded awful.

james brown did this, however the reason why some acts remake their songs is to get the masters of it and out right own their songs.
when its done with a record label, etc. usually they only get the bottom of the cut. so acts re record their material and have the rights to them and finally make the lions share of it.

kid creole and the coconuts did this and own the rights, its just that the original usually is the best versions, still i understand why acts do it for legal and also for having that loot

In concert, that would be cool instead of those rushed medleys he always does. On record, no. He would never do that anyway cause he has too much music left in him and too many classics to take a step back.

I say yes, as long as it's about non-hits/classics or obscure album cuts. The number of songs I'm cool with being remade would be quite small. I can tell you that my "yes" should be understood in a limited sense.

    That's what I'm hoping for.
