    Default R.Kelly Singing Voice

Merry Christmas fam! I hope everyone is safe and happy regardless your situation. Do you'll remember that R.Kelly copying Aaron Hall Period (that's what alot of people thought R.Kelly was doing) and the R&B Thug Period. I remember the summer 12play was out and I had started asking myself why doesn't R.Kelly softens his voice when he sings in other words harmonize. From TP-3 to DU his voice has more harmonized/soft. My question which do you enjoy the most the strong powerful voice or the soft soothing voice?

P.S. For those that feels offended when Aaron Hall and R.Kelly are mention in the same sentence, we all take things to help us grow when we first start out trying to find our way. And R.Kelly, you have done well!

I think every body is gonna go with the Your Body's Callin tone. But shit the second is all good to me too (Sweet Tooth).

I agree -- a lot depends on my mood, and the song itself.

I like both a lot. And I cant choose one.

But...This is a poll and I want to participate so: SMOOTH/Soothing for me.

I love the "Step in the Name of Love, Chocolate Factory, Happy People, Kickin it with your Girlfriend, Sweet Tooth" tamber of his voice.

I was a fan of GUY six years before R Kelly and yes Kells did copy Aaron's singing style and phrasing. But Aaron Hall copied Charlie Wilson and Charlie Wilson probably copied the Dells etc...

So what I'll admit that I love Aaron Hall's vocal style (In fact I gave my son his middle Aaron after Aaron Hall) and it's okay if Kells tried to sing like Aaron on his first album. Because Dedicated sounds like an Aaron Hall song. !2 Play Robert came into his own and didn't sound like anybody but himself R. Kelly he was defined.

I miss R.Kelly's old singing style from back when he sang 12 Play, Sex Me and Trade In My Life that deep soulful singing. He doesn't do that anymore, I wonder why?? I think Robert doesn't want to sink into the old thing he's trying to maintain an old and new audience.

But it will cost him more time and effort trying to recruit new fans at the risk of losing some old ones the ones who have supported him throughtout the years.

I like both. They're both great in their own way.

    ^ ^ i agree w/ the above.

that's the struggle that he is dealing with.

its also the struggle that we go back and forth with here on the fourms.

there will never be a right answer...and no one will ever win a debate on new kellz vs. old kellz.

kelly is in a category of his own right now. the industry doesnt know where to quite place him. you cant say his pop, new and fresh because he has been in the game for decades. you also cant shelf him and say that the hits are far and few between because there is a new song every month. especially when he outsells the "pop new and fresh" crowd and is miles ahead of the "shelved artists".

the only thing left to debate is the nostalgic fans that want the old stuff and the new fans that like the new stuff. you also have the die-hards that like everything. its kind of like looking at Jack Nicholson's career or Marlon Brando or Bon Jovi or the Eagles etc etc.

I would love to hear his deep, raw voice again. His Trade In My Life, The Sermon, Down Low (Double Life), Looking For Love voice. But I also love his CF voice. I just wish to hear both more often.
