Default R. Kelly’s Olympia Fields mansion auctioned for $950,000

R&B artist R. Kelly’s Olympia Fields mansion, once valued at $5.16 million, was sold at auction Monday for $950,000 as part of foreclosure proceedings on the residence.

J.P. Morgan Chase, which held the mortgage on the property, offered the one and only bid in what was a 15-second auction on the south suburban property. In fact, Chase — as the plaintiff in the foreclosure lawsuit — set the opening bid at $950,000. Last year, the lender stated in court files that Kelly still owed more than $2.9 million on the property.

In March 1999, Chase gave Robert S. Kelly a $3.5 million mortgage on the 22,000-square-foot home on Maros Lane, which boasts six bedrooms, eight full bathrooms, six half-baths, an indoor pool and a theater room, according to the real estate listing. There’s also a four-car garage, and the house sits behind an imposing iron fence in the tony Maynegaite Woods subdivision.

The sheriff’s office was tapped to sell the property, among several up for auction Monday at the Daley Center.
Once a judge signs off on the deal, the bank can move to have the sheriff evict any tenants in the residence and, eventually, move toward putting the home on the market.
In 2011, a source said Kelly hadn’t made a mortgage payment on the home in “a significant time.”

Kelly’s business manager Derrel McDavid didn’t return a call for comment.
His one-time spokesman, Allan Mayer, reached in Los Angels said he couldn’t comment on the auction, but said Kelly is not having financial problems.
In 2011, Mayer told the media that the singer now lives in Chicago and that Kelly’s recent tour and 2010 album, “Love Letter,” have been successful.

Psychopaths show a stunning lack of concern for the effects their actions have on others, no matter how devastating these might be. They may appear completely forthright about the matter, calmly stating that they have no sense of guilt, are not sorry for the ensuing pain, and that there is no reason now to be concerned.

Many of the characteristics displayed by psychopaths are closely associated with a profound lack of empathy and inability to construct a mental and emotional "facsimile" of another person.

Psychopaths seem to suffer a kind of emotional poverty that limits the range and depth of their feelings. At times they appear to be cold and unemotional while nevertheless being prone to dramatic, shallow, and short-lived displays of feeling.
Obligations and commitments mean nothing to psychopaths.

But here is the crux: Psychopaths don't feel they have psychological or emotional problems, and they see no reason to change their behavior to conform with societal standards they do not agree with.

Ohh yeah! When he got a new management i thought he would clean up a whole lot more, but if he continues to have these people with him he's gonna get himself in more trouble! You're right he definitely has to wake up, but i'm not sure he ever will!

Olympia Fields Mansion Price Reduced Drastically By Bank

The price on R&B star R. Kelly's foreclosed, now-"dilapidated" suburban Chicago mansion has hit a new low.
According to Curbed Chicago, the price tag on the 14,500-square-foot Olympia Fields, Ill. home that was worth $5.2 million when R. Kelly purchased it in 1999 and was appraised at $3.8 million in 2011 is now just $587,000 -- almost $400,000 less than what JP Morgan paid as the sole bidder on the property earlier this year.

The mansion had a slightly higher price -- $618,000 -- when it was listed for sale by the bank on July 16, prior to its most recent price cut, the RedFin.com real estate blog reports.

The property's Redfin listing for the mansion shows why they are having a hard time selling the 5-bedroom, 7-bathroom property -- the place looks to be in need of some major TLC at this point.
The bank claimed, in 2011, that Kelly owed them more than $2.9 million on the home and previous attempts at a short sale -- with a price tag of $1.595 million -- were unsuccessful.

That property backs up to Olympia Fields Golf Club, I'm surprised they haven't looked into buying it and using it as some type of clubhouse for weddings, etc.

The bank-owned Olympia Fields mansion built by Grammy Award-winning R&B singer R. Kelly is under contract about six months after the Chicago native lost the home to foreclosure.

The sale of the five-bedroom, 14,525-square-foot mansion on Maros Lane is scheduled to close Oct. 14 near the property's current asking price of $587,100, said Miles Conger, an assistant to listing agent Mark Groble of Tinley Park-based Century 21 Affiliated Pro-Team. Mr. Conger said the home is in "pretty bad" shape and needs an estimated $500,000 in repairs, but received four offers.

Mr. Kelly, whose hits include "I Believe I Can Fly" and "Ignition (Remix)," first listed the home for nearly $1.6 million in 2011, the same year J.P. Morgan Chase Bank filed a $2.9-million foreclosure suit against the property. The New York-based bank, which alleged in the suit Mr. Kelly hadn't made a mortgage payment since 2010, paid $950,000 in March in a so-called "credit bid" to acquire the home through a foreclosure auction.

What Mr. Kelly paid to build the home could not be determined. County records show he has owned the property since at least 1997, when he acquired it from a private trust. The home, built in 1999, sits on three acres and includes an indoor pool, outdoor basketball court, private lake and six-car garage, according to a listing.
Mr. Conger declined to disclose the pending buyer. The buyer's agent, Andy Gerakaris of Chicago-based Ziggy Realty, did not immediately return messages seeking comment.
