Default R. Kelly refuses to play at Soulfest AZ in Tolleson

R&B hit machine R. Kelly was scheduled to headline an event called Soulfest AZ Saturday, April 25, at Veterans Memorial Park in Tolleson, but he never took the stage.

He did, however, post a message to his Arizona fans on Facebook, claiming that the show's promoters, the Northwest Black History Committee, hadn't paid him.
"Yo, what's up? It's your boy Kellz," the message began. "And I just want to let y'all know, I'm right here in Arizona right now. Big ups to all my Arizona fans out here waiting on Kellz. But I gotta let y'all know, unfortunately, I'm not gonna be able to perform even though I'm right here in my trailer and I'm ready to go on stage. But I just got bad news that my management never told me, that they did not give me my money. I haven't gotten no money for doing this show.

"They told me they had the money, so when I got here, the money wasn't here. So it's nothing personal against my fans. This is business, y'all. And I hope y'all understand. You know, when they get they money up and they ready to do business and do business correct, R. Kelly will be back here in Arizona to give y'all the best show you ever seen in your life. I love y'all and once again I'm sorry."
Late Sunday afternoon, a SoulFestAZ Facebook page announced: "Before even attempting to explain the reasons leading to the unfortunate failure of the R. Kelly event, we would like to sincerely apologize. The UNTRUE rumors surrounding the event and expressed by the Artist will be addressed in a legal setting. There is no question that everyone requesting a refund WILL receive one, and we are working diligently to make this happen as quickly as possible. If you did not leave your information with us at the event, please send a direct message here or email us at soulfestaz@gmail.com. Your patience is greatly appreciated, and we just ask that you give us a chance to honor our word and your requests."

The post went on to note that Mega 104.3 and its affiliates, Power 98.3 and its affiliates, the Arizona Informant, the Write UP, PHX Soul, Las Vegas Soul, Showclix and Zia Record Exchange were not responsible or liable as "they were only used for advertising," adding "SoulFestAZ assumes complete responsibility and any issues need to be addressed accordingly only to SoulFestAZ."
Soulfest tickets ranged from $60 to $300 for the front-row VIP experience.
An attempt was made to reach the Northwest Black History Committee and the story will be updated when they respond.

In the meantime, ticket buyers shared their outrage in the comments of an Azcentral.com preview of the show, which was scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
Tracy Olson Taylor of Phoenix wrote: "This was the most unprofessional event that I've ever been to. They come out and tell us at 730 that the other performers will come out and sing 1-2 songs to cut it short so R Kelly can do his scheduled time. Well a couple of acts played but they were all so quick and the sound was terrible We were then asked to wait again, for what???? At almost 10 they come out and tell us R Kelly didn't get paid so he wont go on!!! What kind of crap is that!!! Shame on R Kelly for not putting his fans before $$ and shame on the promoters for screwing us all. I want a refund of my 130 I paid for this joke of a concert!!!"

Pappa Max of Mesa wrote: "THIS WAS A RIPOFF!!!! The show started 4 and a half hours LATE, the first act never showed up, the promoters were VERY shady and never paid Kelly so he didn't perform at all. So after having the crowd pay all that money, some people waited from 2 pm when the doors opened, it was raining, cold, the vendors food was terrible and expensive. I can't believe just how unprofessional this 'event' was. They were still checking the mics at 7 pm.....5 HOURS after letting people in!!!!!!! To top it all off, once the announcement was made that Kelly wasnt performing the promoters DISAPPEARED!!! Leaving an audience of paying customers to wonder why they showed up in the first place."
And Brenda Juarez wrote: "We were just scammed out of $120 dollars and waited from 3-10pm for them to tell us R Kelly wasn't performing! Worst event ever!!!!!!"

Psychopaths have a Hidden Content and grossly inflated view of their own Hidden Content and importance, a truly astounding egocentricity and sense of entitlement, and see themselves as the center of the universe, justified in living according to their own rules.

Psychopaths show a stunning lack of concern for the effects their actions have on others, no matter how devastating these might be. They may appear completely forthright about the matter, calmly stating that they have no sense of guilt, are not sorry for the ensuing pain, and that there is no reason now to be concerned.

Many of the characteristics displayed by psychopaths are closely associated with a profound lack of empathy and inability to construct a mental and emotional "facsimile" of another person.

Psychopaths seem to suffer a kind of emotional poverty that limits the range and depth of their feelings. At times they appear to be cold and unemotional while nevertheless being prone to dramatic, shallow, and short-lived displays of feeling.
Obligations and commitments mean nothing to psychopaths.

But here is the crux: Psychopaths don't feel they have psychological or emotional problems, and they see no reason to change their behavior to conform with societal standards they do not agree with.

Smh....this is crazy. I wonder how payment is secured? I always thought one of his guys met the promoter before the show and secured a cash payment. This is what I was told anyway. I wonder how he got all the way there, incurring traveling expenses, etc without having secured any payment. This is crazy. He needs better people around him making sure crazy stuff like this doesn't happen.

    Shady business going on...
Good for his team. Looks like they wasted no time to post his side of the story. Not only that, they kept it straightforward. No beating around the bush or glossing over the situation. Otherwise, it could only make Kellz look unprofessional.

He still should've performed because you can't expect people who paid their money without possibly getting their refund to understand the "business side". Think about it, is it really that important that you jeopardize losing fans because if you watch videos on youtube posted from disappointed fans you'll see what I'm talking bout. Am I blaming Kellz no but at the same time he is somewhat responsible being he was there already and fans found out about it which made it even worse. The whole situation looks bad, shady promoters & even Robs team not being on top of this. If I was Rob I would have sued later because he would have won but I guess he was a little money hungry & said fuck the fans. A 40 second youtube clip to apologize to the fans afterwards is not enough plp aint trying to hear that bullshit.

He did the right thing by not performing. At the end of the day, it's a business. The other party didn't fulfill their obligation there for the contract was broken. And another thing, by performing, it lowers his stock and gives other future business relationships an upper hand to lower negotiations.

15k is nothing to him so I doubt he was "too money hungry" to perform. Legally, he can't perform unless he's paid. Besides I doubt he's losing sleep over those so-called fans who were cursing him in other videos and tossing chairs at the stage, SMH. Screw them tbh.

I honestly never seen you post on here so I could careless who you are or how you feel, lmao. And I didn't miss any of your off base points.
You think he should've performed for the fans. I said that business is business at the end of the day and he did the right thing. Agree to disagree.
