Raphael just can't sing and that vocal limitation hurts him, because the cat can play and groove, but i liked him better with toni, tony, tone and lucy pearl than his solo career.

I like the acknowledgement at the end of the song...and it really is a nice twist...the song is hardly a year..and its being covered already....just shows you how genius it is...

This guy is too brave to even try to cover this song. But yeah, it's a very nice cover. He put his own flavor on it and did a pretty good job.

Exactly. Raphael doesn't have that voice like Rob. I respect Raphael for going back and doing that old school sound but he just can't pull it completely off like Rob. I like that new single Raphael has that has that 70s soul feel to it. I can't remember the name but I'll post it if I find it. I thought about Rob doing Love Letter II and how it will likely cover that 70s soul era and how he will demolish (in a good way of course) that sound!

My main reason for coming in this thread is to reiterate how much of a powerful impact this performance has had on the industry. Bruno Mars was clearly inspired with his Grammy performance and more artists are starting to come around to giving Rob props again. The HUGE residual from this performance has been the radio play. Rob has been all over the radio. Michael Baisden is the best example I can give because I remember clearly when Michael Baisden didn't play R. Kelly AT ALL UNTIL THE SOUL TRAIN PERFORMANCE! Do you all hear me? NOT ONE SONG! He went from not playing ONE song to playing 3-4 ON ONE SHOW EACH DAY!!!! Not only that, ACKNOWLEDGING ROB AS THE KING OF R&B----HANDS DOWN??? This is just amazing to me!

Yes! That's what made me come back in this thread because Rob has this Soul Train performance to thank for a lot of the love he's been receiving lately and I notice more and more of his songs being played on the radio and like you said, old and new. This performance and the LL album is a pivotal point in his career. Of course to the R. Kelly die-hards like us, he never left but this performance and album is truly a launching pad for the next phase of his career - back to that "superstar" status he had before the scandal.
