lol R Kelly No Longer Doing the FMMF. The Local Groups didnt want him to outshine them.

    REALLY??? LMAO wtf are they.....

US folk rock band Saintseneca have pulled out of the Fashion Meets Music Festival in their hometown of Columbus, Ohio, because the headline act is controversial R&B singer R. Kelly. The band say the festival’s selection of Kelly ignores very serious allegations of sexual violence and assault made against him.

In an explanation posted on their website, the Columbus band explain that while they were honoured and excited to be asked to be a part of the festival, they cannot bring themselves to be part of an event that includes R. Kelly.
“We feel his selection as a performer ignores his very serious allegations of sexual violence and assault,” explain the band. “We feel it is an affront to all survivors, who are already often overlooked and forgotten in our society.”

“As a result, we’ve decided to withdraw from the festival,” they continue. “It is just that being so closely associated with this artist, especially here in our own hometown, is something we are not comfortable with.”

The inclusion of R. Kelly on the festival bill has sparked the attention of other artists as well. A few weeks ago, electronic duo Damn the Witch Siren also pulled out of the event after publishing an open letter imploring the organisers to re-examine their choice.
“While we were (and still are) very honoured to have been asked to play this event, we cannot personally support the decision to have [an accused] serial rapist perform,” band members Bobbi Kitten and Z Wolf wrote. The post generated the band’s largest Facebook response to date.
Event organiser Bret Adams defended the festival’s decision in an interview with Columbus Alive. “I don’t even think [Kelly’s inclusion] was a debate,” he said. “He was not convicted of anything. He was acquitted.”

“If we wanted to limit our artists to people who never had brushes with the law or were not good people, then you can eliminate quite a few across the board. We’re running a festival to help brand the city of Columbus. We’re not the morality police.”

Nevertheless, Saintseneca feel they had to make a moral choice. “We are aware that this action does not erase sexual assault or perpetrators of sexual violence from the world, nor does it keep R. Kelly from selling out venues and getting a check,” they continue in their statement. “We are simply hoping that this will encourage dialogue, as well as challenge our society’s norm of ignoring upsetting things because it is easier than facing them head-on.”
Psychopaths have a Hidden Content and grossly inflated view of their own Hidden Content and importance, a truly astounding egocentricity and sense of entitlement, and see themselves as the center of the universe, justified in living according to their own rules.

Psychopaths show a stunning lack of concern for the effects their actions have on others, no matter how devastating these might be. They may appear completely forthright about the matter, calmly stating that they have no sense of guilt, are not sorry for the ensuing pain, and that there is no reason now to be concerned.

Many of the characteristics displayed by psychopaths are closely associated with a profound lack of empathy and inability to construct a mental and emotional "facsimile" of another person.

Psychopaths seem to suffer a kind of emotional poverty that limits the range and depth of their feelings. At times they appear to be cold and unemotional while nevertheless being prone to dramatic, shallow, and short-lived displays of feeling.
Obligations and commitments mean nothing to psychopaths.

But here is the crux: Psychopaths don't feel they have psychological or emotional problems, and they see no reason to change their behavior to conform with societal standards they do not agree with.

let me speak on this trifling ass mess and yes i'm gonna say it RACIST....and why i say racist...i lived in columbus ohio for 10+ years before moving to Cali....and racism is not my only reason for leaving but the biggest reason for leaving....Ive always said that cols, ohio belongs in the racist south...due to how they freely let the KKK march there...and especially on MLK's bday they always march that day in columbus.....those unknown groups are trying to act like they don't wanna be associated with Rob due to his past accusations but that isnt true at all...they most likely pissed off that their hometown is letting a big name artist headline and hes also gasp BLACK.....that put their unknown ass on the backburner.....so they thought by dropping out the fest would get rid of Rob and that didnt happen so now theyre waging a war in Columbus. so i think Rob should drop out and let the racist folks of Columbus ohio have that mess. BTW Jim Derogatis started all of this and is proudly bragging about it on his blog.

Over the last few weeks I feel like I’ve been especially lucky. You see, I’ve been getting to watch the slow motion trainwreck that is becoming the Fashion Meets Music Festival. Initially planned as a grand festival celebrating the music and fashion culture that blooms eternal in Columbus Ohio, FMMF seems to be coming off the rails. Festival organizers are facing a huge community backlash and artists are slowly yet steadily dropping out of the lineup.

It all started when the acts were listed online. Let’s just say their selection of local artists largely had all the zest and flavor of a bowl of plain oatmeal. It wasn’t all bad of course, there were a few acts with fangs, and things seemed to be on track. I certainly wasn’t going to be buying a ticket, but at least the lineup didn’t bring bile to the back of my throat. Ah, but then the headliner was announced. Our fair city of Columbus would be graced by the musical stylings of none other than R.Kelly. And that’s about when all hell started to break loose.

It’s safe to say that the local artistic community received this news with all the joy and pleasure of Ralphie seeing his bunny pajamas in A Christmas Story. Yes, I know that Mr. Kelly has never been actually convicted in a court of law, but let’s just say that the evidence produced by journalist Jim DeRogatis has been particularly convincing. After reading his articles and interviews, I feel perfectly confident in stating that R.Kelly is a person of disgusting and disturbing moral character, and it seems a portion of the good folk in Columbus feel the same way.

Local musician King Bobby B demonstrates his love for R.Kelly and FMMF

I have watched the local social media outlets every passing day with more and more glee as the storm against FMMF has slowly reached gale force winds. It might have been all limited to internet outrage, until one act took the step to become the first pebble in the avalanche. While I’m not a fan of Damn the Witch Siren musically (I prefer my synth sounds distorted and bone crushing), I can’t fault them for their ethics. Their decision to drop off the festival was done with class, and it resulted in some of the first negative publicity for FMMF. Unfortunately for the promoters, they’ve handled this controversy with all the class of a high school dropout huffing paint in their grandma’s garage. Festival co-founder Bret Adams was quoted in the local Columbus Alive, saying there was no controversy in the decision to pick R.Kelly and claiming “We’re not the morality police.” Their recent Facebook posts have done nothing to dispel the idea that they’re missing the point completely.

Following this, Columbus’ hometown musical hit squad Saintsenca announced that they too would be dropping off the festival lineup. This was much more of a blow to the festival – in addition to recently signing to Anti Records and getting hype from Rolling Stone and NPR, Saintseneca are a gold standard of credibility when it comes to us locals. This is the band that has been regularly packing local punk basement shows for years. They were the ones pounding the pavement, playing on dirt floors with a garbage can for a drum, getting the audience singing along to songs that had yet to be recorded. Thus Saintseneca’s exit from FMMF, and their support of the planned counter-festival FeMMeFest, has stripped the FMMF event organizers of any pretensions they had of having legitimate, organic support from the Columbus art scene. It’s all over now, baby blue.

this is the part were they clearly reveal that theyre mad that the unknown cols group who worked hard dropped out^^^^

Media outlets that partnered with the festival are beginning to catch wind of the story and have begun to question their relationship with FMMF. Fashion designers who had planned on having their designs on FMMF’s runways are taking a second look as well. More news outlets are grabbing onto the story every day. With Saintseneca’s departure, the impetus for more musical defections is there. One question is now presented to the Columbus acts still on the FMMF lineup –
More and more, FMMF looks like an attempt by Chicago businessmen to expand their empires into Columbus. The fact that “local” band OAR is headlining with R.Kelly and Michelle Williams seems like it has more to do with the acts all sharing management, rather than the connection OAR has to this city. Despite being surrounded by farmland in the heart of a heart shaped Midwestern state, Columbus is a cultured, modern metropolitan city and we don’t take kindly to to carpetbagging hucksters trying to sell snake oil under the cover of regional pride. Though the city may not have a national media spotlight to shine on the roaches and make them skitter away, that lack of attention is what has made our music scene so weird and vibrant, something proud and independent and worth defending. Right now, R.Kelly’s tickets just aren’t selling in Columbus. FemmeFest promises to be one long triumphant whoop of exaltation and a simultaneous middle finger to the Fashion Meets Music Fest. The city has spoken – Woe to those who would condone rapists for profit.

I agree with everything @KARMA said.

It all comes down to one thing: racism. I did a bit of research and I realized Columbus, Oh is a very racist city. See for yourself: Race Lies: Race War in America: Racist Hate Crimes in Columbus Ohio Since Trayvon proves city is Racist, Puny and careless $500 Reward for Tips to Criminals.

Kellz headlined the Macy's Festival last year in Cincinnati, Ohio and there were no complaints about him headlining the event from Jim or anyone else. Want to know why? Because it was a BLACK music event. None of Jim's ivory, irrelevant Indie artists were there to perform.

Kellz performed in Columbus, Oh on his Love Letter (2010) and Single Ladies (2012) tours and there were no complaints from anyone so why is now that he's headlining some festival (a minor one, might I add) there are complaints? Bands who were booked to perform for FREE want to drop out because of Kellz past allegations? lol. Yea freaking right. If that were the case they wouldn't have even signed on to do it in the first place! FFS! I see what they're trying to do and I see right through them using Kellz past allegations as an excuse.

One thing about Jim is that he LOVES to pop up when Kellz is being exposed to a broader audience. He wanted to do a series when he was booked to headline Pitchfork. I watched every video from that series and all the journalists he gathered to discuss seemed so over it because the topic is REDUNDANT. He did a write-up (I think, not 100% sure) on Kellz doing Bonnaroo. Now he wants to do a write-up now that he's headlining a Fashion festival (lol) because a bunch of ivory, Indie artists are a part of the event. Do you guys really think Jim would care if the rest of the lineup were a bunch of R&B/Hip-Hop acts? Kellz headlined WGCI Summer Jam just a month ago in Chicago to a sold-out audience and noticed how Jim didn't say a thing? That pig has no shame. If Kellz were booked to do Essence Festival do you guys think Jim would stand up and tell black women to stop supporting R. Kelly? He wouldn't dare to cause deep down he doesn't care.

And I know everyone here was so quiet when that article dropped like damn bomb out of nowhere but I for one was DISGUSTED at how he was trying to use black women in his little R. Kelly hate party. I actually heard that an article was in the works back in August last year. What I found strange about that whole thing was how they waited AFTER Kellz did his promo run and sat on Jimmy Kimmel’s couch and was on an award show. They waited because lowkey they didn’t want to hurt him that bad. Jim is such a stan, it’s crazy. Too bad there little party only lasted a couple of weeks and Kellz album kept selling. All those wannabe petitions fell on deaf ears. The people who started them were exposed for praising Kellz work in the past. One even crying when Kellz was performing at Whitney's funeral and urged people to not bash him during that moment...

I’m just sick of people and there groupthink when it comes to Kellz and it’s never for a long period of time. They pop up when it's convenient and when someone else is bashing him. Next thing you know, you’ll see someone rambling about his 'genius' or about one of his songs when just a couple of weeks ago it was the total opposite. The hypocrisy is amusing.

Anyway, I hope Kellz drops out of this. He was kind enough to lend his name to it but Columbus, Oh won't appreciate it because he's not white. His name is entirely too big for that festival anyway. I understand they want to bring more attention to their fest by using Kellz but nah. Not worth it. Kellz headlined major festivals that can actually garner attention and press already Pitchfork, Bonnaroo, Coachella. So that’s enough. A fashion festival won’t do anything for him and the tickets aren’t selling well because again, he’s black. Maybe, if they had one of those TITC sing-a-longs it would’ve sold out? Lmao.

yeah it is racist when R.Kelly is dealing with a wider market and they making this something that doesn't need to be. i get tired of when people want to play judge and jury and can't accept what is in the verdict. with OJ Simpson if you don't like the verdict well say it, however don't mess with his livelyhood.

michael jackson had to deal with this despite being found not guilty. same with R.Kelly. its like move on and allow the people to decide if they want to support them or not. not some side ways agenda,etc..

oh and let me add....columbus, ohio was the only place Ive ever lived were Ive heard n*gger used so freely...and i'm from virginia....it was nothing to hear n*gger daily and on multiple occasions ....i can guarantee that is what Rob is being called when they mention him....how dare that rich n*gger come here and try to steal our thunder....how dare the FMMF people choose that n*gger over their hometown acts....i remember when i was living there and my brother who still lives in virgina was dating a white woman who was from columbus, ohio and they were coming to visit....he called me up and told me he was coming to town...only thing he couldn't go to the west side of columbus with his girlfriend to visit with her and her family..so he had to come and stay with me on the east side while she visited her racist family....at least she was honest and told him...so he asked me about columbus being racist and i told him that it was very true...and where she was going he did not wanna go there with her....sounds like something from back in the 50's, 60's were blacks are not allowed in certain areas ....so as i said before Rob should let them have that fest to themselves....columbus has only their racist towns people to blame for never coming up....

F them. I would still perform and show them just how much a rich n***er can make.

I love the promoter's response. So poignant and so true.

the racist citizens of columbus, ohio got their way

Responding to protests from musicians and locals, organizers of the inaugural Fashion Meets Music Festival in Columbus, Ohio, have pulled R. Kelly from the Labor Day weekend lineup.
Kelly was scheduled to appear on Aug. 29, opening day of the three-day event in Columbus' Arena District. His publicist released a statement: "R. Kelly is sorry to disappoint his fans but looks forward to seeing them in the near future during one of his upcoming tours."

I just looked at the full line up and only recognized two names (which were Afroman and Michelle Williams, neither of which have been relevant in about 10-15 years).. good luck selling tickets.

It makes you wonder why Rob is even stooping this low in the first place, is money really that dry right now?

    1. It was a racist agenda.
    2. I'm glad Rob isn't doing it.
    3. I hear you Stef', but Rob can save the travel time and just keep it moving like he always does.
    4. When it comes to money Rob rarely says no. If it's a matter of him turning up, dropping the 75 minute medley, and getting back on the tour bus he'll sign on the dotted line.
    5. If y'all aint got with it, then get up on 'Hidden Colors 3' - it's the absolute realness.
