R Kelly in SA at long last to to charm fans

FINALLY the phenomenal R of R&B, the inimitable crooner R Kelly landed in the country this morning after a couple of false starts.

Fans and music lovers will be chuffed to learn that Arise magazine, in association with Metro FM, presents the This Day Music Festival 2009, where Kelly will perform at Sun City Superbowl on Saturday June 27 at 8pm, and the Grand West Arena, on Monday June 29, at 8pm.

Making his debut performance in Africa the singer, whose rhythms often turn his fans’ hearts inside-out, will weave his musical magic at the picturesque Sun City in the Pilanesburg and Grand West Arena in Cape Town.

He said: “I can’t wait to play to my fans in Africa who have always loved my music and given me great inspiration.”

GREAT NEWS!! I'm glad he got there safely. This will likely give him enough time to really absorb the culture and do some humanitarian work. This experience can only enlighten Rob and inspire him in a positive way! I'm really happy for him.

All our faith over the years people, is finally paying off!!..All we need now is that pure RnB album and the turn around of Rob's fortunes is complete...

    Thank you God!!

We have some people from South Africa on this board, right. They should post photos from their news reels. They have pictures in their printed press???

It’s hard to believe, but there are actually places that multi-platinum R&B superstar R. Kelly hasn’t performed. In fact, he’s never been to Africa, though he’ll be rectifying that soon. Next Saturday, Kels will close out ARISE Africa Fashion Week with a concert in Johannesburg, South Africa. It will be the first show of a multi-city tour that will also take him through South Africa, into Nigeria and end in London. The show will close out the inaugural ARISE Africa Fashion Awards, which seek to point the spotlight at the explosion of up-and-coming African fashion designers. Kelly said in a statement, “I’m very excited about my first visit to Africa, I’ve dreamed about this for a long time and its finally here. It will be one of the highlights of not only my career but my life.” Kelly is working on a new album, which he hopes to release later this year.

You can never trust the media, inaccuracies are part of their job!!

What I was thinking was why wud Rob fly to London, then to Africa, and then BACK to London...It doesnt really make sense but I went with it...THEN...I decided to go to the website for the club and check out the 'Party Pics'...

    http://www.movida-club.com/

The Belvedere IX party was presented by KELLY ROWLAND...with no mention of Rob in the building!!

It was on Wednesday just gone (17th) and I think that maybe they heard Rob was coming to London sometime soon...somebody said 'KELLY'...and they put 2 and 2 together and got 12...

The Jack Tweed boy aint got no sense anyways, and it sounds alot better when u say u got turned away from R. Kelly's V.I.P compared to getting turned away from Kelly Rowland's!

    and read another report:

"Tonight, Wednesday 17th June, Beyonce’s Destiny’s Child band mate Kelly Rowland helps to launch Belvedere’s new premium vodka, Belvedere IX..."

ARISE Magazine in association with METRO FM presents the THISDAY Music Festival 2009 Starring R. Kelly. Kelly will be performing at the Sun City Superbowl on Saturday 27 June 2009 at 20h00 and the Grand Arena, Cape Town on Monday, 29 June 2009 at 20h00.
Kelly is one of the world’s top 40 best selling artists in history with album sales of over 40 million worldwide. R. Kelly said "I can’t wait to play to my fans in Africa who have always loved my music and give me and give me great inspiration.”
As the undisputed “King of R&B,” R. Kelly never seems to be far from the current soul scene. Be it collaborating with Snoop (“That’s That”) or trading verses with Ciara (“Promises Remix”), this Chicago soul man has displayed a consistent brilliance throughout his seventeen-year career.
Kelly has been greatly influenced by his musical forefathers Marvin Gaye, Curtis Mayfield and Donny Hathaway.
Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, Kelly was into music at an early age. Around the time of his graduation, Kelly began performing on street corners and at bus stations as a keyboard performer before he eventually formed the band, Public Announcement. Kelly left Public Announcement to focus on a solo career and in 1993, his debut solo album, “12 Play” was released and yielded Kelly’s first number-one hit, “Bump ‘n Grind.”
In 1996, Kelly released one of his most successful singles with “I Believe I Can Fly.” The single reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 1 on the UK pop charts. The single was a huge worldwide success and remains Kelly’s signature song.
Building on the hype of “Fly”, Kelly released a double album entitled, “R” and “Chocolate Factory,” which became a runaway success for Kelly, selling over three million copies due to the success of singles such as “Ignition,” “Snake,” and “Step in the Name of Love.”
In June 2005, Kelly released his next album, “TP-3: Reloaded.” A five-part “mini-opera” titled “Trapped in the Closet” became an immediate hit when released as a single. After the initial buzz from the first five chapters of the song, Kelly went on to produce up to twenty-two chapters of the “saga,” all being released to DVD.
In May of 2007, Kelly released his eighth studio album, “Double Up.” It included the hit single, “I’m a Flirt Remix,” featuring T.I. and T-Pain. The song peaked at number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100. It also reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Rap Tracks. Another hit on the album, “Same Girl,” was a duet between Kelly and Usher. The single peaked at number 20 on the Hot 100 and peaked at number four on the R&B charts.
Kelly truly is a windy-city maestro, creating wonderful music and pushing the sonic envelope whilst staying true to his game. Audience goers will be thrilled with his onstage dynamism and superior lyricism, Kelly’s voice and the outstanding production is pure fire.
    R. Kelly gives his fans not only what they want; he gives them twice as much.
Tickets for the THISDAY Music Festival 2009 Starring R. Kelly Presented by ARISE Magazine are available at Computicket. Ticket prices range from R250 to R550.
