Default What do you want / expect from R. Kelly's Buffet?

Since this album was announced, R. Kelly has talked about how the idea is "all you can hear" and that he's incorporating a lot of different types of music into this album. As Exit said in the other thread, these are the confirmed tracks:

    Backyard Party
    Marching Band
    Switch Up
    Barely Breathing
    Be There

Naturally a double CD would do this project justice but, if not, a good 80 minute album would be great. The two current singles are both around 3:30 - that could mean over 20 songs if he's being ambitious.

This is what I'd like from the album:

    1. A classic intro, la the R. Kelly and TP-2.COM albums.
    2. I hope he keeps the 'modern R&B' Switch-Up type of tracks to 2 songs maximum. They're exhausting to listen to.
    3. At least two country songs would be nice, in the vein of Lionel Richie - He could kill this.
    4. A single 'steppers' song is enough for me. If he overdoes the stepping, I'd probably get bored. I love the tracks he's done but enough is enough.
    5. Self-production. I imagine a couple of songs will have outside producers but, for me, R. Kelly still excels when he produces himself.
    6. I need at least 3 classic R. Kelly slow jams. I've been missing these. Black Panties had something close but didn't quite hit the mark for me.
    7. A couple of ballads. R. Kelly's been neglecting the R&B love ballads lately. Even a soft-rock or power ballad would be interesting.
    8. It would be good if he had a guitar-heavy track. Something along the lines of Rock Star, but with perhaps more of a heavy metal feel. Or grunge. That would get my attention.
    9. I know he's done house music before but I really hope he doesn't include any on this album. If he has to, one song at most!
    10. Short little 1 minute interludes scattered through the album would be awesome.
    11. Finally, it'd be cool if he could come up with a cool little jazz track.

Those are just a few thoughts off the top of my head, none of which will come true. What are you hoping to hear on the album?

    great thread
    and my cents says

all i really want is money tracks as the man said he got all of these hits for this project.

i mean real fleshed out tracks, not phoned in.

i feel a real band feel
and also obviously a Country and Blues based cut would be nice.

i think a trade in my life type of cut would be something else right about now.

if he spoke out on these Police and also got social would be tight,

to me him and a Kendrick Lamar track that is talking about something would be the business.

    I need inspirational/personal songs.
Songs that showcase his vocal ability. He has overdone the whole talking/rap cadence as of late.

I need a track like "Reality" to be on there. Music that I can feel.

Only one thing to add that hasn't already been said - a Remix. Black Panties didn't have one, and the one Write Me Back spurned didn't actually feature on the album (Feelin Single - Single Ladies). Hopefully we get one this time round.

I really want a new double disc album. It doesn't look like it will go this way, but I am hoping for not really any guests on the album besides what we already know. I hope the country songs/s on the album has a huge remix with a big country music artist. as far as numbers go, I would like a top 5 debut, and hopefully a bigger opening week than Black Panties

In truth I just want a tight album and that the final choices are the best songs from each category, not record company influenced tracks. I don't want any more features now that we have them on 'Marching Band', 'Switch Up' and the African song that has been slated to have made the cut. If it had the below elements I would be very pleased:

    1. A new jack swing record. He hasn't revisited this since that era and this would get the older fans in particular amped. Plus the 'vibe' of such songs are infectious so that would be a great inclusion.

    2. I would really like 'Planet' and 'Shooter' to make the cut, but for some reason I think they wont (unfortunately).

    3. At least 2/3 knock-out bedroom bangers and I'm talking undeniable fire.

    4. An inspirational cut where he really takes it to church.

    5. The aforementioned blues and country songs, which I think are nailed on now.

    6. Definitely another house song. That 1 that DJ Wayne Williams was listening to about 4 months ago about 'change' would be great.

    7. For sure a 'ghetto opera' type joint, with a poignant moral in the mould of 'Be Careful'/'When a Womans Fed Up'/'When A Man Lies'.

    8. Something real groovy and funky.

    9. Maybe another reggae joint, but that's not entirely necessary if the other elements are in place.

    10. Overall if 60% of the album was produced by Rob then I would be very happy about that. It's hard to tell where things will end up, but there's no doubt he's done a lot of his own production for this record it's just the question whether or not they make the final press.

So yeah, really I just want him to follow through on what he said. Let 'The Buffet' be a buffet; make the right selections, no fillers and have a little something for everyone.
