I would call the "U Saved Me" album neo-gospel, but obviously not the classical gospel. I like the album, there are songs that I love and songs that I simply don't dislike, but I'm sure he could make a much better gospel project (if he hasn't made it yet...)

These just touch me and moved me and I still listen to them when I need to feel the presence of God.
    Nice to hear.

And I know many folks who ain't Christian feel the album. That's respectable.

I think it's a great album and that he can go even further with gospel.

I am one of those folks. Kells connects with us non-religious people as well. I think the reason is that he feels his music so deeply and it comes across when he sings it.

I wouldn't call it real gospel, such as the one they sing in the church. Gospel-wise, I really think he could do better. For me, that would be something along the lines of The Sermon and Trade In My Life which both are very gospel-like, imo.
But that shall not take away from my appreciation for the USM album. I love it. It has true masterpieces on it. 3-Way Phone Call gets me teary-eyed, I Surrender gives me goosebumps, When I Think About You is such a joyful piece, The Diary Of Me is very deep, then there's one of the greatest inspirational songs, Spirit, and of course the one and only Peace which words can't describe.
But I think R. Kelly can do rawer and purer gospel than that.

definitely because his album moves with the universe. he took the tempo of it and made it more at a spiritual pace which is the original movement of time. no other gospel album moves concentrate like this, close but not quite most people cannot catch this rhythm because it is slow.
