I can't even vote on this because you didn't give an option for me: the answer is: NO! Okay, maybe if we get a a whole bunch of I Love the DJ type stuff on the next albums, but for me the answer is decidedly NO! Did you listen to 12P4Q? Did you listen to the Demo Tape? I hear stuff on here I've never heard the likes of before. As I always say: Tip the Waiter? Hello? All of 12P4Q? When a Woman Loves? Zodiac? mistermaxxx, maybe you're just trying to get a rise outta me, but I think the best of kells has yet to come.

I don't ever think you can count this cat out. When i say cat, i mean dudes got 9 lives. People counted out rod stewart until he came out with the great american song book.....people counted out sade.....ppl have counted out the isley brothers and the list goes on. This guy can re-invent himself threw time like he was in a delorean.

Musical statement? I don't think it was his last, certainly love letters seems to be another statement. If you want to talk a grand production that is out of the scope of what he normally does.....you may have an argument otherwise i'm sayin dude ain't done !

SOON AS MY BROTHER TWAN CAME HOME....OH OH WHAT IS THIS !!!

I think what Mixxmaster is trying to say is that R. Kelly hasn't made a real musical statement since TITC. There have been pockets of brilliance but you can count them almost on one hand.

For me, his most innovative stuff since TITC has been 'Real Talk'... The other stuff mentioned like 'Tip The Waiter' is all too tilted to the commercial side of things and sounded like a lot of the stuff that was out at the time... Plus the mixtape and TP4 were not official releases...

When you consider musical statements by him you think about all his albums before TP3; they each brought something different from all his previous albums and the music that was being played at the time...

I doubt that Mixxmaster is saying R's done but as far as the general public is concerned he's not been 'coming with it' for some time.

From the sound of 'When A Woman Loves' he may be about to make a musical statement but we'll have to wait and see...

There are musicians who eventually lose the ability to go with the times

But Kelly is not one of them. He was in early years a genius, but from year to year he perfecting, and always feel what you need right now.
I don't care places in the charts, because I can listen music, and I know, he is expert in music

"i hope not, trapped was cool for the time, but i hope not."

There are no options stating exactly how I feel, but this is the closest. I guess, for me, the novelty wore off pretty early. I pretty much stopped digging the chapters like, from Pt.6. I did check them out, but was not into them.

As far as the masses are concerned, well, it was cool for those who are up for laughs, but I seriously doubt that it left a lasting impression on them when it comes down to R.Kelly, the musician, the artist.

When I think of how you use musical statements, I think of R. and Happy People, both totally tight, themed or "concept" albums. I think both unreleased 12P4Q and The Demo Tape have that tightness about them. I'm not a big follower of contemporary RnB or Hip Hop, so I can't attest to how similar some of those tracks were to other stuff, although the Demo Tape was supposed to play with contemporary songs and put his mark on them. Untitled is good, but it lacks cohesion to me. It seems like he picked a song for every market.

But that said, I stand by my gut for what I've said in other threads. I think Zodiac is going to be the next mind-blowing statement. I think he had to get Untitled out, and with EPIC he's trying to reach to that inspirational base. I don't know what the music industry is like, but I think he's got to set up Zodiac: maybe the media isn't interested in him anymore because he's already accomplished so much. I just have a suspicion that if he releases Zodiac without preparing the public for it, it ain't gonna do what it should do. So enter Love Letter, where it will be classic RnB and Kells all the way, with some surprises for sure, but I think he's going to chart big on that album. And with that the world will be ready for Zodiac.

Maybe Tip the Waiter is commercial, but it is over-the-top commercial, going to a transcendental level. Even my friends who don't like Kells complain to me that they can't get the song out of their head.

From another perspective: maybe Kells has had a stressful few years and hasn't been happy. I hear happiness in When a Woman Loves. And maybe that's where his strength comes from that touches us.
