production doesn't even mean doing anything musically its making sure the song is ready to go. the producer takes what the artist brings and the arranger sets up the music and places the parts together its the producers job to smooth it all out and make it work. Kellz been working with beat makers on this album and its a big difference when you hear it. listen to christmas Ill be steppin compared to Cookie and you hear the difference in production and variety. producing is about bringing all things together and then trimming parts and getting the best out of said recordings.
What i heard is that he bought the beats, and the production/writing credit was part of the deal. Most big artists do it like this. Plus he always does his vocal arrangement etc. so he'll always get his credit on the tracks anyway! I was having a discussion with somebody and several people asked me why he buys beats he can/could produce himself. I think he's somewhat bored, but to be honest i dunno. Maybe you have some input on this maxxx.

Was actually thinking about that again today after I saw a question about why he started using outside producers on the 'R' album. Maxxx would be able to give more detail for sure but I do recall him saying that Barry Hankerson was looking to get some more uptempo stuff which is why he hooked Rob up with Trackmasters. With Black Panties people have misinterpreted Rob. Alot of people are debating whether it is or isn't the new 12 Play, the point is Rob has been saying a) he's on a Benjamin Button and b) this is kind of what 12 Play would be like if he was an artist of today. If we're working with that assumption, it makes sense that he would get beats/production from artists of today. There could be other reasons but on reflection that's a reason which sprang to mind.

Also, if he's got the Christmas & Country album on deck then I think he would have been working hard production wise on those projects and despite his incredible ability he does have his limits, especially if he did actually write 362 songs for BP. Plus just to reiterate a continuing theme, he gave us 90% production on 2 albums worth of work so he can have a bit of a rest......

as long as he get's right back to it next time round! Hidden Content

^ Was just gonna post that. Great news, maybe this weekend the projections, can increase another 10,000. Those are really fantastic numbers, espcially without a huge hit.

I personally think they under shipped him again which is why the spike in sales probably had something to do with online sales. I'm glad he will return to number 1 on rnb charts after being robbed by that fake MJ album

he bought beats on past projects as well. however like most folks who have the ear know, he produces himself better than anybody else can on him.

his type of talent would need full strings and orchestration and a live feel instrumentation to fully capture his rawness. these cats who are MPV playing or 808 or dat playing in the crib are called beat makers and sold as producers however all they do is give him beats and a groove, however they can't enhance what he does so well. and he dumps down and does them a huge favor because believe me if you can do Opera runs along with gospel, blues, jazz, R&B and Pop why mess with Karoke machine based talent? he better than he leads on and he just settles and also is competitive.

he is bored and in truth i still say after Jive wouldn't green light alll of musical virus he just sorta threaded things together. that man will cut about the equal to 2 albums a year and just sit on it because the business only allows so much.

i mean he been more excited about trapped in the closet than almost anything else he has put out. this cat knocks tracks out by the day however he knows he ain't gonna get to do all he wants to do and if folks knew how talented he truly was then it would be scary. this cat plays full fledged music.

you ain't doing that Sam Cooke Show at your crib and not have the chops to back it up.

Hankerson wanted Kellz to work with what was happening wiht Hip Hop and he had him working with Bad Boy Production Mario Winans and others in the Puffy Camp. also he worked with G One from DJ Quik's camp on Home Alone. of course ARRUH payed for working with cats and you can always tell his progressions and there Progressions. Track Masters was brought on board and they served a purpose though they were sorta like the pre cursors to the Neptunes in the sample and grooved based cuts they did.

he has creative control on his contract which always states Written, Produced and arranged by Him and then he also shares the credits from time to time.

i've listen to his tracks and certain tones in his music to know the way his stuff sounds and when he uses others.

the plan was for ARRUh to appeal to Hip Hop audiences and it worked. he always was about getting the songwriitng credit. and he always puts his stamp on things period. Hankerson wanted Kellz to being with the Hip Hop crowd and Kellz voice and personna plus his skills made it work.

so much goes on behind the scenes and so much has to work or it can backfire.

it came in handy because once Hip Hop took over and off a Cat as talented and as versatile as Kellz could always do Hooks.
