    Default Lyricism

In which song do you feel lyricism at its best? Can you show how and why? It might be hard to verbalize such scattered feelings and kinda "lock them" in words instead of letting them stay there or flow away, tho. Or, have you had some more or less defined feelings for those songs for a certain period of time?

The other day I was listening to Everything's So Different Without You by Billy Ocean. For some reason, "crying out to you in every line~" part broke my heart in a good way. You know, I don't feel connected to songs all the time, but that day the song and I hit it off instantly. I was sinking into a bit of sudden emotional moment out of ordinary days y'all. I think it's good for my health.

I'm lucky to know English and can appreciate different types of lyricism that comes out of songs in English other than my mother tongue. Human beings aint' different much wherever you are they say. There ain't no such differences when it comes to our basic emotions and feelings, but I find the way they're expressed through music can be different, which is something beautiful. Sometimes, the difference awakens me to a whole new sense. Of course, Kellz did a big part in doing that for me.

note: My bad....the title is messed up^^ I meant it as lyricism of the best state. Now I realize "at best" has a negative meaning to it.

Hold On from Ali Sdtk! The line " If I just hold on, I'ma make it there some day" is just a reflection of ones hope to succeed in life. I think that's a wonderful think to tell someone whose heart is broken, whose givin up on their selves and life. The whole song has all the elements you need to succeed and survive. That song is a blessing!

Just Like That TP-2.Com! The line "Oh, Like sittin close in a small cafe" shows how you can be intimate and caring to someone you love. It's not about show or status, its just about enjoying each other. And oh my god, This line "Like losted inside of a masquerade" is just a Joy to me! I love this song.

Yea Just Like That is a kind of "hidden" classic when it comes to lyricism. Male singers singing for ladies are called "crooners" but I really love he's not crooning on that track. Rather, he's singing in a tranquil tone, which appears in Religious Love and Forever More. I don't know how to explain this well, but I think these 3 songs leave mystique vibe behind, as if the magic vanishes as they fade away becuz of the voice tone. Sweet-talk in love ballads sometimes get tired fast and maybe for that reason, the songs win my ear after all. His voice itself is already gentle, so without crooning, they all come to sound just right, for me.

Rob has plenty of songs whose lyrics give me goosebumps. Right now "Heart Of A Woman" comes to mind. Those words are the truth and nothing but the truth. A heavyweight in terms of lyricism.

Anybody who can listen to "Fly," "What I Feel/Issues," and "Streets" and not get goose-bumps must not be alive.

I include "Streets" with Jay-Z because I love R. Kelly's line "No ground to place my feet... I feel the fire underneath... A way out is all I need... Somebody answer me..." I think those words are the essence of R. Kelly the man. He knows what's right, but no matter what he does he continues to fall into the same traps in life.

Great lyricism is evident in the I Wish Remix, as well as Hold On by Kells from the Ali soundtrack: "You can knock me down, but I'm gonna stand again, yes I will."

However, great lyricism is not just limited to serious songs. A lot of Kells' sexual/playful songs have lyrics that are not just fun to listen to, but also brilliantly constructed. Take the Same Girl Remix, for example. This line from Kells is absolutely incredible: "She, she call me Big Ol' Head, and I call her Bobblehead, the way she wiggle it when I'm hittin' it from the back up in my bed!"
"'Let me remind you that I am the king of R&B.' It's an unnecessary boast: Who could possibly argue, or forget?" - Kelefa Sanneh; The New York Times; 2007
