Default Let's go to the extreme (post-acquittal mode)

We've had discussions about what and how he can experiement musically i.e. Musical Virus project and many other possible types of styles.

It's been already a month since he was acquitted of all the charges. So, I think it's meaningful to think about the unrealized possibilities he can make it happen at this point. Personally I'm hoping the new album drops next year for the sake of the time and mental space that can give him some "Anything new to play with? (musically)" kind of mind. Like a bored boy looking for something to cause "a trouble" with, for the next fun thing. We know we can say this cuz he's the one who can bring DA TROUBLE to the industry.

What do you wanna see him do when it comes to left-field, experimental, off-the-wall, quirky songs and projects? Things that make people go Hidden Content "I don't know I can like this right now..?"(as a fan), and "Is this R.Kelly? I cleaned up my ears recently!" (either as a fan or non-fan)

R.Kelly has been bored for a while. You can tell. Case or no case.

No one comes up with a Stepping album or a U Saved Me type album or a Trapped in the Closet type concept or goes and totally flips it by doing HipHop/Rap without being a little bored...

I think its time for him to bring it on home though and focus on R&B.

I would love to see him come up with more concepts but at this point I would also love to see him go back to his roots.

Yes AZ I agree I think he needs to go back to his roots too because thats what made us fall in love with him. These R&B artist now are trying to crossover with these whack pop hits or hip hop. I am getting so tired of the way that R&B is going right now its just whack! Its time to put the soul, sweat, and tears back into and I think he is the answer......If he gives classic R.Kelly!

R&B needs its savior right now. I want to hear an old school album with a live band. I want to hear an old school harmony in the background. I want to hear about God,love, life, politics-- things that will inspire a generation. Of course, I'm all for the fun songs but more on a classic R&B type of vibe. I wouldn't be surprised if we get a triple album release from Rob that will have something for everyone. The man has so much music in him.

I can see your point and myself can be all happy about his solid, traditional, conventional R&B/Soul album. I'm a R&B/Soul fan and R.Kelly fan. But, how would it be if a few tracks of such back-to-the-roots album have some kind of experimental vibe? I think maybe we could get one or two really adventurous album(s) at most throughout his future career. I just have a hunch. More realistically, I can see it'd be much easier to meet just a few tracks having that vibe on one album even though I don't how many such albums in total would come out.

[BTW]Happy People/U Saved Me project was dangerous enough becuz it's usually not a sellable concept, but musically, I don't think it's too dangerous. Esp. U Saved Me except for Peace. It's a gospel album after all. So, personally, I count that album out as for being equally compared to the kind of project that I'm talkin about.

If you feel me, now can you think of any types of songs or projects (not the very next one) that this thread is gettin at?

Oh, y'all gotta know we're looking further beyond the first few projects or songs since the acquittal. You can think about more remote future.

drop a Sam Cooke/Bobby Womack type of tribute album and R can pull it off IMO.

I don't think he's bored to be honest with you guys.

oftentimes we forget that Kells is ALWAYS trying out new things. TP3 was a perfect example of this--still had slow jams, but added some hip-hop/reggae flavor to it.

and CF and HP/USM had stepping, which was a new thing for him at the time.

DU was a bigger departure from his R&B roots, but I dunno bout ya'll, but I was left very satisfied with the project as a whole. it accomplished what it set out to do, which was to make a party album.

Kells can do whatever he wants at this point. I would of course prefer it if he would release a more R&B-style album, but we should all be happy he isn't retiring. I mean nearly two decades in the game is a long time and the fact that this genius of a man still produces a record amount of songs is unbelievable. we should just be thankful, and let Rob do what he wants. that's what I think at least. think Never bored...

But while Robert was under inditement his music was rushed. Like he was always pressed for time, so he kinda threw shit together. That's how I felt about TP3...

Like Kells said "Shit I got another court date let me put some shit together in case I won't come back."

But now he can take his time, spread out and relax, slowly but surely he will revert back to the old R Kelly. Because I think with record sales in the toilet they might urge him to do something doesn't just appeal to the young crowd but to everyone. Then I feel Robert will bring back the Donny Hathaway, Charlie Wilson, Aaron Hall feel back. The sound we love from him.

Strong harmony. Cause damn, with all the hip hop being so dominate I just wish somebody would sing.

I would love to hear something like that too. Either a tribute album to one particular old-school artist or an album full of cover songs by all kinds of different artists. He would kill it, plus it would raise a little more awareness to his fans. Also, if he did a cover version as a tribute, there'd be no way he could mess it up by guest production, cheap beats, stupid metaphors. It would be a safe bet, actually.

But apart from that, I'll stick to what I've always said. I am ready for him to do anything. Blues, Jazz, Funk (please!), Twist, Swing (although that would be nothing new with all the swing-performing artists over the past years), house, dance music, rock, classical music ... I would love it all, and I am sure all of those projects would rank among my favorite R. Kelly albums. But for me that is easy to say since I love all types of music, which is a love that most of his fans don't share.

But no matter what, I would love him to start collaborating like a madman. I want collabos. (... pause for the boo's ...) Of course I'm not talking about the usual unpassionate and musically flat "you send me a beat, I send you a rap" collaboration. I want him to collaborate with real, I mean, real musicians. Artists that are great in their own respective fields, no matter if the public doesn't know them or if they have a commercial appeal. I want him to work with guitarists, trombonists, sax players, organists, true bassists who are great names in their musical direction and on their instruments, but who might not be known to others.
I'd like to hear collaborations such as Santana's and John Lee Hooker's "Chill Out" (is Hooker still alive, by the way?), or something with Buddy Guy, Wayne Shorter, some African singers/percussionists/instrumentalists ... I want it all.

It would just require R. Kelly to allow others to shine, and to actually actively collaborate in one studio with those guys. The band that recorded his albums so far is cool, but a studio band can only take you so far, especially since R. Kelly never really let them shine. So I want real instrumental geniuses who are independant from R. Kelly to add magical moments to his songs. It would also gain the highest respect and acknowledgment from the critics and reviewers.

    R. Kelly has NOT been boring, IMO. It's TODAY'S R&B! Put and old school type of album, period. Kellz would surely bring the REAL R&B back. Smooth, spritual, and sexy harmonies and melodies are MOST definitely a must. A mixture with old school with a new twist would be nice, but NO T-Pain sounds, please. As far as collabos, I want our boy to do it with some legendary artists. I want to see him and Stevie do a collabo, or Al Green. Please freeze with the rappers! I agree with y'all when it comes to instrument because I want Kells to bring it back.
