He should go back to mostly RnB next time around but I wouldn't be surprised if he continued with more of these hip hop/rap collaborations since that stuff fills the airwaves and sells better than straight RnB.

In general I agree with you. But I think that his last two albums only went platinum because of the huge fan base and not because the radio friendly type of music he's doing lately. Therefore, I think that going in this direction flopped and it's time to realize that. There is no reason why he should release another album like Double Up or TP3 again.

I think he'll go back to good R&B... eventually. I don't know if it will be with the next album, I really hope so, but there's a possibility that he doesn't consider the return to the roots and the soulful R. Kelly as necessary as we fans do so he might continue "waisting his talent" for a bit more time... Hopefully the low sales of the last two albums and the disappointment of his loyal fan base will help him realize that is not the way. And I'm sure Jive is noticing this, too.

I think Rob was probably just talking. Trust me, this latest era in music will see its end. It's just like I was trying to tell my brother. He has been saying for years how there is no real hip hop and at first I agreed hands down. Besides emcees like Ghostface, KRS-One, Common, Kanye and a few others, the essence of the true emcee is not at the forefront because society now wants a quick hit and just something to bounce their behinds to. I have now realized that hip hop is just going through a phase and because my generation is hip hop and that's all we know of growing up with hip hop, the late 20+ crowd is disgusted with the current state of hip hop because we know the quality of the music is missing but I believe like R&B in the 80's, hip hop and R&B music is in a valley right now but will turn itself around here shortly. Just like everything in the 80's concerning R&B music was watered down to a pop pill white America could swallow, R&B and hip hop are found in the same situation now but there will be a revolution in our music here shortly and I wouldn't be surprised if our undisputed King of R&B led the charge. At least let's just pray that he does . . .

Do you think that quote has a deeper meaning and we will never get back the RnB type of R. Kelly? I'm worried. I really am.

    Let's dicsuss this here.
Robert is the last of the true R&B artists, really R Kelly sounds like old skool R&B and new skool so music sells better in greater numbers. If Robert does R&B like before he'll be the only one out there.

Back in the day there were sooo many great R&B artists at the time, Earth Wind and Fire, the Isley Bros, Brothers Johnson, Barkays, Chaka Khan and Rufus, etc... Now there is only R Kelly and Mary J. So until there is some new trend in R&B to come along then all we will have is Kellz Musick.

I've also been concerned lately and have started wondering if the R in R&B is coming back. It seems his heart and mind are not into it right now and haven't been for the last few years. Hip hop, collaborations and film are what interest him. Actually film-making - directing, writing, even acting - seems to interest him the most.

I also think he's in a different stage of life now. Writing all those great, classic R&B songs couldn't have been all that easy, although it's what he loved. But living that type of creative lifestyle and for so long had to have been grueling and isolating. He wasn't just writing songs from his talent, it was how he lived. Plus the emotions that fueled those songs were so raw and intense. Maybe he's moved past all of that and either doesn't want to or can't live that way anymore. I'd hate for this to be true, but it would also be natural - a natural part of life's progression.

I just happened to recently drive through the neighborhood where his studio used to be. For some reason, seeing how that studio and all that was produced there no longer exist, caused me to think for the first time that perhaps RK's R&B era is gone too. That perhaps it is also a finished part of the past, like the studio, and is not part of some process that continues into the present. But again, I hope it's not the case.

he really needs to go back cus his voice aint gonna be this good forever....

i was listening to songs from Happy People/ U Saved Me & Chocoalate Factory and those albums IMO had his best work in it. hearin "you sauved me", "imagine that", "been around the world", "peace", "Greatest Show On Earth", "if", "what do i do", "I Surrender" and "diary". just made me think about what r. kelly is wasting.

and i dont think its becasue he wants to stay current either because TP3 and Double didnt sell as good as Happy People/ U Saved me or Chocolate Factory. Even though HP/USM just went above 1,000,000 it still sold as well as TP3. if he had relesed an R&B that wasnt successful i would understand but nothing like that happened...

i wouldnt mind if he did an hiphop orientated album as long it had quality music...
