to be honest i think that he has the very best voice out there and no one can even come close! i always have thought that!

i know i must be very bias because i love kells music so much, but in my honest opinion no one can be compared!

people know Kellz when they hear his music. I always play random songs that people haven't heard but his voice is distinctive and they know it's Kellz. I think vocally he's as good as anyone out there.

What kind of question is this??? Here's a question for you... Are you a true R Kelly fan or just posing??? Hidden Content

How does The R. compare vocally to others??? Hummm???? Well considering Kellz has the ability to go from a baritone to a tenor, and he has the ability to imitate any other male vocalist he chooses, I'd say that Kellz is pretty damn good compared to maybe Marvin Gaye, Jeffery Osborne, or Aaron Hall etc.

So what exactly pisses you off about soulful's question? Just because we're R. Kelly fans doesn't mean we worship him like there's no other. He is an amazing singer, but there are hundreds of amazing singers out there in all fields of music genres. So the question how he compares to other great singers, be they successful, legendary or unknown, is totally legitimate. Besides, it is actually rather a question of personal taste. Nobody doubts Rob's vocal skills. It's just that some voices sound smoother, some rawer, some sharper, some freakier ... I don't even know why I'm trying to defend this thread just because someone overreacted.

Because there is no comparison between singers... Everybodys got their own thing...

Would you compare Ray Charles to Stevie Wonder??? Why not?? I mean shit they are both blind and black right??? There ain't no comparison, cause Ray got his style and Stevie got his.

i love the question and music lovers always like to debate and compare,etc.. nothing wrong with that and very human. I've always said and will continue to say that R.Kelly is the Modern day Sam Cooke in that he can take his voice into different places and spaces. He uses his instrument for so many forms of emulation and also leave room for something else. it's a damn good question now especially in light of how much he tends to sing/rap alot more now than he use. of course you get a "Slow Wind" and you nod your head and then of course when he is channeling a Artist like Bob Marley on "I Like Love" or Frankie beverly on "Love Street or Michael Jackson on "Dream Girl" etc.... you can appreciate the fact that he can go back and acknowledge but also bring his own take to it as well. just the way he phrases. like "the Greatest Sex" with the Narration and tone. his falsetto is underrated IMO. we always want the soul from Kellz and sometimes you might get it fully or you might get it teasenly. but you know he has it.

This is a tough one because if you're a person that appreciates belters like a Teddy P. then R is not likely your cup of tea. But if you like phrasing and inflection and switching up their tone and the texture of the voice then R. is one of the best. Heck, one second he can give you a little Sam Cooke, next thing he's singing in that nasally Stevie tone or he puts that drawl on to give you that old Stax flavour. That's why Chocolate Factory is up there as one of my favourites.

I was thinking Sam Cooke when listening to 'If I Could Turn Back The Hands Of Time' and 'Hold On'...and the run at the end on 'I'm Your Angel' - michael jackson

sam cooke is the closest person i can compare R. Kelly to.

i created the thread because a lot of people have been asking about if R. is as good as the best...so i thougth i would make it to get your opinions...

'You', 'Hands Of Time', '12 Play', 'Leap Of Faith' and 'I Believe I CAn Fly' etc. show that R. is as good as the best...like R Dot and Braidedgirl said he swiches between registers (i think thats the word) and shows that he isn't a typical singer...and when he hits the high note in 'Slow Dance'...if he did that more often....

P.S. has anyone heard the song 'U Will Know' i think R. has the best verse in there...
