Default A Barometer of Emotional State

Do you feel R.Kelly's music is like a barometer of your emotional state? I do, sometimes. I'm grieving, so I can't put on Happy People album. For me, it is strictly for those who want to stir up more fever when they're already in a good mood. It's like, when it's a sunshiny day, you can't enjoy that cuz you're feeling down. The whole album gives a picture of a sunny holiday. I don't know when I will be able to play the album again...

Do you have any album(s) or song(s) like that? You know, whether you can play or not, something that can show a glimpse of your internal world.

    Helena I feel you.

You know, when my grandmother died in 2004 (she really was like a second mother to me) I couldn't play the HP album for a long time. the thing is that it just got released a few weeks earlier, so it wasn't before 2005 til I could really play this album.
Instead, I played a lot of songs like "I Wish" during that period.

I definitely feel u Sister H, and Brother D...Rob's music really brings that emotion home to me...there are times when I will lay on my bed, Rob in my earphones and it will be like the boy is breaking it all the way down for me.

That's the power of the medium of music...and that's the power of R.O.B

I'll be back with individual break downs on songs soon...

    Great thread!

Absolutely. I think not only does your emotional state effect what music you listen to, but what music you listen to can also effect your emotional state. For me, there's an album of his that I just can't bring myself to listen to quite yet (and at the risk of sounding like a broken record I won't elaborate on that). And then there are albums like U Saved Me where I can only listen to them if I'm borderline depressed because it makes me so sad. How Did You Manage, for example, almost makes me cry. So I really wouldn't listen to this album if I was in a good mood. He puts his emotions into his music and it's really powerful what his music can do to you.

Actually when I was at an early cross roads in my life that was the last time I can remember playing U Saved Me and I didn't care how emotional it made me cause I know crying will always make you feel better when you just let it out. And around that time I was listening to R. Kelly (Self Titled) album alot too. Mostly the second half of the album. I played Happy People to snap me out of this emotional state which worked well. One of the songs that's brings out emotion in almost everytime I hear it is Trade In My Life, it's just too powerful that you have no choice but to feel it. I Surrender follows.
Baby I never meant to clip your wings, Now I'm wishing you could fly right back to me. - R. Kelly

Im really feeling the responses Rey, and P...this is why we love and appreciate Rob, the power of his music in undeniable and hits us in the core.

    This is light example:

I was going through something with a Girl in '07...(I wud just like to this opportunity to say that I dont often go through things with Girls in my life, 1. Cuz there aren't many 'Girls' in my life Hidden Content and 2. Cuz there's bigger things to worry about in life than Girls Hidden Content )...anyways 'Hurry Up' (Tyrese) hit me for 6, cuz I was doing exactly what Rob wrote in the song...U know "staring at my room door, twiddling my toes, huffing and puffing cuz Im bored" and I was "sick of looking at the ceiling, girl I need a healing"...the melody of the vocals on the song are awesome, the bridge is off the chain and then when Rob is on background vocals at 2 mins 52, and they double layer the vocals...

    shoot...

I get a shiver down my spine.

Then right at the end...they take away the instrumental and just break it all down...

    "Sex 1-1, Im calling...Sex 1-1, Im calling..."

By the end of the song, that's it...your boy is blown and ready to hit the sack...

"3-Way Phone Call". I can't go through that song without crying. Whenever I'm feeling sad or depressed and need to let it all out that's the song I turn to.
