Thread: Was Trey Songz criticism towards R. Kelly music the reason for Love Letter?

Do you guys think Kellz would've released Love Letter if it wasn't for Goat's constant criticism + the diss track?

I think so because Kellz received a huge backlash from the DU album and Untitled from his fan base...I always thought he did the love letter album because Trey bit his style...lol I also don't think Trey had anything to do w/ LL because he's not continuing to do albums like that, he's switching it up...I like some of Trey's music but like I said in another thread, I don't think Kellz takes Trey serious...

Kellz took it personal and while Trey as a Artist can't hold Kellz cane, as a Fan of R.Kelly's I agree with him because Kellz is too talented to be putting out sub par or just by the numbers material.

the thing is Kellz voice is One of the most important Instruments we have heard in the past 25-30 years IMO and him using auto tone or doing generic tracks which don't showcase his musical genius do him and his legacy a huge disservice IMO.

Trey got to him. he might like Steak which by the way is through Hamburger. Kellz cares and reads it all.

if Trey had some legit songs then i bet Kellz would feel competitive because Kellz loves a challenge, but ain't none of these turkeys out now a threat and he knows, however Kellz ain't getting the 106 and park audience that much anymore either.

double up did good not great numbers, hairbraider didn't do nothing, not a bad track, but still no buzz, then untitled was alright, but missing that money track IMO.

i wish kellz had competition because believe me he would be scary. trey got to him, not in the sense of his legacy but in the sense the new jack is trying to do you from 20 years back and the ego of any act ain't cool with that.

come on now as tight as R.Kelly and Ronald Isley are you don't think Ronald doesn't say Hey Man, in my day i had to deal with Stevie,marvin, Jackie, and Sam before that etc.. you ain't had to deal with this or that and then talk about the music,etc...


however Ronald respects and Loves R.kelly as a Person and as a Artist. it shows.

problem is the younger set don't understand about paying dues.

Kellz stays humble however he is a competitive person and he was on a mission with love letter and he wanted to shut up his haters and detractors. believe that.

he wanted to show trey this is how you do it and bring it live,etc.. problem though for Kellz is that he doesn't want to get old with it and its going to be interesting where he goes next and then so on.

i still say if Jive had have allowed him to release musical virus uncut then things would be so different it would be like world music. i truly believe that kellz is bored of doing just R&B/Pop Music and he wants to expand more. its too easy for him on so many levels.

thank you.....kellz aint worried about what trey thinks! personally im getting tired of hearing trey songz in same breath as rkelly! rkellys been criticized since he been in the game! i mean some people loved double up & untitled (i did as well). I remember seein a tweet from the singer "Mario" claiming how he loved 'untitled. I know a personal friend that loves Kellz Demo Tape; Theirs people that cant even get into "Love Letter"...I knew some folks didnt like chocolate factory..... I mean is everyone gonna be satisfied??? no matter what he does....

I dont think Trey Songz criticism & diss were the greatest factor in Love Letter per say. I now look at Kelly's career, especially since Double Up, in marketing terms: You cant satisfy all consumer needs, your fans & fans of music, so you concentrate your efforts on a specific group of potential customers at a specific moment in time. those customers being the younger crowd (like Maxx said Kelly doesnt want to grow old), Double Up & Untitled targeting that demographic. then where your product life cycle is: Introduction (R. Kelly & the Public Announcement), Growth (R.), Maturity (Chocolate Factory), Decline (Untitled). at the decline point you have to rebrand or restructure. You do your hmwrk or research & find what the ppl want by listening (the decline in sales with DU & U = Love Letter for balance) to get back your consumers you may have lost from customer value after building long term customer relationships. at that point you keep you have to continue with quality products or fear losing balance in either market because changing taste can devastate a once successful marketing strategy.

So all the things ive said about the marketing of Love Letter I take back when I look at it from this perspective. Trey Songz would be an internal customer being of the music industry. Fans not of the music industry are the external customers. You have to listen to ALL your customers.

Nah R.Kelly own competition is himself R.Kellyhasn't even reached his full peak yet thats what keeps R.Kelly going or at least one of the reasons.

Its's slightly insulting to R. Kelly to think that Trey's opinion was that important.
