Happy People: Underrated or Non-Commercial?

I often hear people talking about HAPPY PEOPLE/USM album being "underrated". As I was listening to a lot of the tracks today...I realized that it is not really "underrated". Its that the album wasnt "commercial".

I think a lot of us mistake the non-radio play and so-so numbers as being underrated but its really just NON-COMMERCIAL. People that love r-and-b, great music and urban music critics think HP/USM is a great album. What do you think?

And as far as it being non-commercial, WHO CARES! This album will be played and sampled for decades to come and is one of my favorites!

to me the last Great Project that he did. while I dug Trapped in the Closet, Slow wind&maybe 3 other tracks off TP3, that Album to me was a step back. but Happy People/U saved me was Grow folks music. also He was doing what DJ's did back in the 70's on the radio&give you a Atmosphere. " I think that "Happy People" was Commerical&a couple of other tracks,but the irony is that the "U Saved Me" Album was more better suited toward Radio overall IMO than the Happy People set. but I dig the Happy People Project better overall. I think there is truth in both: Underrated because He was doing a concept Project that the average head will say all sounds the same&not fully get,but when compared to some other albums you can feel the Arrangements. I mean the Orchestra Arrangements with the Synths,Programmed Beats,Guitar&Bass runs with that vibe is gonna be better appreciated in time. Non-Commerical: because again not necessary a Album with songs you are gonna hear at your club,but a Car ride compilation that you can truly appreciate.

I think it's one of the best albums ever done; it's what made me become an R. Kelly fan. Believe me, I listen to this EVERY DAY at work -- it puts me in such a good mood. After hearing this CD, I began purchasing other music from Kelly and discovered that he is not only a good songwriter but he has a fantastic voice!! I have so much respect for his talent, and I'm looking forward to his upcoming work.

Underrated, you're gettin 2 inspiring, feel good, pick-me-up discs for the price of 1, On Happy People to me its like a Motown throwback when every track hits a chord with me they are timeless classics and for the U Saved Me album, well you've got priests from around the world spinning that disc like a DJ on rush hour power..its a 11 track masterpiece! I hold my hands up and praise the R. for that cd

Way underrated, but that's cause lots of people weren't ready to receive that masterpiece

He did what he knows how to do best by putting the Album together but what I think happened was that He never gave the Album the real promotion it worth which brought the sales down

Eagle-eyed readers of Billboard's charts will surely have cocked eyebrows when they come across hip-hop track "I'm a Flirt." The song has been recorded by both Bow Wow and R. Kelly. Bow Wow's version features Kelly, who co-penned the track, while Kelly's version subs out Bow Wow for T.I. and T-Pain.
Due to the similar characteristics of each song, the plays for both versions will be totaled under one chart listing. This week, it debuts at No. 90 on the Billboard Hot 100 with the attribution Bow Wow or R. Kelly (featuring T.I. & T-Pain). It also climbs to a new peak of No. 15 in its sixth week on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs.
"I'm a Flirt" first appeared on Bow Wow's Columbia/Sony Music album "The Price of Fame" as a hidden bonus track. iTunes shoppers, though, can purchase the track as a single, as Columbia has download rights -- but not the singles rights to promote it to radio.

Kelly, meanwhile, will include his version of the song on his as-yet-untitled new album, due May 29 via Jive
