Thread: 12-Play 4Q LEAK: Good Move? Bad Move?

It is a good move. Fans are happy to have something new. And its getting everyone back on the topic of what is important the music. I personally think that the leaks were a calculated move to test the waters and see what happens. The leaks are almost like getting free publicity for the new album just in case Jive is not willing to push the project.

I doubt Kells will release the new project with only what has been leaked. I would be very surprised if that happened. To me Kells seems to be too much of a perfectionist about his music to let not release new stuff. Another artist may have just rushed the release of Loveland after it was leaked. But not Kells, he went back to the drawing board and give us something new while incorporating Loveland into the project. I strongly believe we will be getting new unheard music when the actual project is released. Since we have yet to hear any official announcements, I think he will tweek this project until he knows it is perfect and will sell. The sales of this new project will probably be the most important of his career just because it will be the first official release after all the trial drama has concluded. The response to the official release will solidify the future direction of his career. He knows this and will be do what he does best.

the fucking sheer volume of music that was leaked just about proves that it was very much an intentional act. in this day and age, this kind of leaking is unheard of (except for Weezy, who proved that it's a good fuckin idea).

Kells is doing an incredibly smart thing by leaking this material. he's getting the fans pumped up and creating buzz in the industry. this is the way musicians have to do it these days to make themselves noticed.

Hmmm...to be honest, I say it's a bad thing. I wish he released it as a real album and get the recognition for it, which he deserves. It has some sick slow jams on it, so I bet it would have done better than DU on the Billboard Charts. I know he can still put it out, also with more tracks but come on...the whole world now has this album on their pc, that means it wouldn't really do well on the charts. And I really want him to have a REAL successfull album again (last one was CF when it comes to numbers).

First of all I'm not sure wether it really can be called a "move" by R. Kelly or just somebody stole the album from his studio like it happened to Love Land.
However, I would have prefer him to release the cd official. I mean, yes the internet folks might be talking about it but they won't buy it. Plus, he's been releasing one or two songs per months constantly for the last half year so this ain't nothing really new to us. I know that this would be torture to the fullest, but right now I wish back the old days, whe you had to wait two years for an album. When it's released you buy it in a jewel case with a cover, booklet, etc. without knowing any track, maybe except the lead single. Those things made me anticipate and love a new album ten times more than a bunch of songs that have been leaked before to build up some buzz for it.

The leak was not an inside job or an accident.

Chocolate Factory has been leak free for 6+ years now and all of a sudden a whole fucking album leaks? No way...

This was Kellz/Label driven all the way. Industry has seen how Lil Wayne hustled this leak/mixtape game and it worked.

There have been no leaks prior to Loveland, either, as far as I know. That doesn't mean much. Might just be a case of "when it leaks it pours".
But myself, I also think it is very likely that this was on purpose.

GRRRRREEEAAATTT MOVE....all the buzz this is causing is what Kellz needs. It's almost like motivation for the king to bring even more heat for retail....

It's a good move. It brings the focus back to what really matters in an artist: their work. It's all about the music with Rob and this is his way of saying it to the public. He's sending out the message of let's forget the bullshit and celebrate the music. Get ready for the new album 'cause you're in for a treat.

People have something to say about every piece of work that Kellz releases. 12 Play 4 Q gives us free music from Kellz to help ease our hunger for his next project and I'm very grateful for that because I was really needing some new Kellz music.

I think it was a good move cause the buzz is out there and it gives him a chance to read how folk are receiving his music. I just hope that he adds more songs cause I want to be surprised with even more classic Kells music. I think if Kells slams it this time, many of his fans will be satisfied cause have felt that haven't had true Kells since CF.

Yeah I was going crazy without new bedroom material from him...I was just getting so so tired of all the "club" type songs from him..even the slow songs on Double Up didn't measure to what he has just given us....so I'm thankful.
