Thread: "Squares" in Best Friend

Remember how he mentions the squares Charles promised him? I thought he was referring to toilet paper since he just talked about Charmin, but I found out it means cigarettes. I can't be the only one who didn't know that, can I? Anyway, the line makes more sense now.

Great find lilmorsel. Well, I didn't even know squares could mean toilet paper and now cigarettes. As a foreignor, you just don't know many things that are talked about in a song, you know? Sometimes, naw many times you don't know why something is a joke and why something is funny. I appreciate your input.

There's a classic episode of Seinfeld where Elaine is in a stall that's out of toilet paper so she asks the gal in the next stall if she could spare a square. She couldn't spare any, not even one square so, well, you know how the Seinfeld shows make fun of very trivial situations. It's life and it was a funny episode. You should see that one, I think it might be called or referred to as The Stall.

I was wondering why Charles couldn't afford toilet paper.

I knew he was talkin bout cigarettes cause Squares is the slang term for Cigarettes where I'm from. And a square of toilet paper isnt enough to get the job done if you know what I mean.

It means cigarettes where I am from to

Could I ask why? Cigarettes aren't square, last time I checked. I guess it refers to the packets or something?

That's an urban term....so yes I did know it meant cigarettes.
