What you fail to understand is that altho there are many members here who were present in decades past (80s and back) to fully experience those acts in their prime there are quite a few members here who were present only in the "Neo-soul" era (90s and forward).

BOTH opinions are valuable. I value mistermaxxx's opinion who has a pretty good grasp on decades past (and present) as much as I value KRX or kellzfan or even my opinion since we were born in later decades. KRX is almost ten years younger than me but it doesnt meant Im gonna pretend to be an R&B snob and tell him hiphop, Chris Brown/Tpain suck, for example.

R&B didnt start with Kellz...but TO US it did. Which is why our opinion is just as valuable as the "R&B connoisseurs" as you call them. And just because we werent born during those earlier artists prime does not mean that we dont listen, appreciate and know what you are talking about when it come to past R&B acts.

"Age ain't nothing but a number" and music is nothing but a universal language; be you 6 or 86 years old Korean or Canadian.

Im so young that I was no more than five years old when Jodeci, Bobby Brown, New Edition, Whitney etc were starting out. And, I wasnt even born when those others you mentioned were in their prime. But believe me, I have gigabytes and gigabytes of their stuff.

I voted "no" because I think it was literally the same girl unlike how Common gave his ode to hip hop in "I Used To Love Her". I think that concept is cool but I definitely don't see Rob passing the torch on to Usher as they have been out during the same time period of course with Rob being out a little longer. If Usher and Michael Jackson or Neo and Michael Jackson did some type of song with a video with a choreographed dance scene I could see someone POSSIBLY saying it was a "passing of the torch" but Rob is so much in a category of his own. Nobody even comes close.

I think this song is just as simple as it sounds. I don't think we should examine anything. It's just an good R&B joint that's all. Kells didn't pass no torch

Exactly... That's what I'm referring to. Usher has been in the game almost as long as R Kelly.

I appreciate the fact that you understand what I'm talking about. It's hard to have a discussion with those who think they know more. When really they don't know anything.

What ever you know about R&B is great for you, I don't have to agree. I still think you need to do your homework first before you pose a question regarding a subject you know little about.

R&B didn't start with R Kelly just because you thought his first album was called I Believe I Can Fly.

I wasn't born when Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald were around but I still listen to their music all the same as I do Jill Scott and Angie Stone.

R Kelly and Usher get alot of press and yes R Kelly is at the top of the heap. But Anthony Hamilton, Jaheim, Musiq Soul Child can all stand in line and take their place as the King of R&B too.

That was not the only comment I made you're taking it out of context of the entire statement.

Back to the topic... Musiq Soul Child, Anthony Hamilton, Jaheim, or Mario, etc could be considered Kings of R&B too. Can you address that possibility???

I love Musiq's and Mario's style. I also like Jaheim. Anthony I can take or leave.

The problem with these acts is that they arent leaders, ground breakers and not even at the very least "buzz creators". They have the charisma of a wet rag. They couldnt sell a glass of water in hell.

If you are going to LEAD R&B you have to take it across the globe, across genre's (pop/rock/etc etc) and to many different people. I dont think those artists above have the ability to do that.

Which is why a name like Usher who has had a global impact with his music and personality come up with many of these critics and members/internet etc. Usher HAS done that.

In certain circles mine to be specific, Anthony Hamilton is considered the new Al Green. And you can't tell me that Al Green is not R&B.

Music Soul Child plays to sell out crowds on the East Coast. I saw him in Philadelphia last summer he's the bomb.

The comments you just made sound like what music critics said about black music in the late 60's and 70's before music crossed over in America.

Musiq: Highest selling album a little over 1,000,000
Jaheim: Highest selling album was 2x Platinum in 2001. Since then he has had one that barely made platinum and two others that barely made Gold.

There are plenty of artists that are EXCELLENT musicians and singers. The argument isnt about their credibility as an artist. These guys are GREAT representers of a certain type of R&B music. I also know that they are very popular in R&B music circles. That isnt what my discussion is about...once again, take the time to READ what I am saying.

They just havent been able to muster up the ability to LEAD a genre. These guys live in it and make money off of it. None of these guys lead it. Some of these guys like the ones mentioned have reached their peak. Jaheim, a great singer and vocalist with a great singing style/voice has no where to go but the floor after this latest project, for example.

I know you really cant judge an artist by his sales, to a certain degree. HOWEVER, the discussion is about leading the R&B genre and these guys cant expect to lead when their projects are pulling 400,000 copies.
