    Default #1 Fan

Thanx a lot VIP I still gotta hear the song, the link you put up has been removed.

    Maan I love a Groupie!
Even with all the rest of the words, this part sounds ironic to me. Or, maybe the whole song is one big irony. It's possible that he's actually saying he don't like them groupies. Of course, it can be that he's saying, literally, he does like groupies.

^ I need to give it a couple more spins to really disect the song but honestly, I think he is being literal. Rob is a people person who loves attention. If somenoe is giving him attention and is making him feel like a king, he'll take that attention. On the figurative side, I think he just loves that type of admiration like how a true fan gives him - supports him no matter what, get into heated arguments with people over him, etc. I think that's the type of "ride or die" quality he likes in a woman. Then again, another way to look at the song figuratively is that this is a type of thank-you song to his female fans for their support and being able to make love to his #1 fan (many think they are his most supportive fan) is showing the ultimate and most intimate "thank-you" he could give. I know it sounds a tad bit weird but it's Rob so we know he loves to push the envelope.

I agree with you, redemption08. I think he's being literal and honest in this song. I hate to say it but I think he does love groupies.

Thanks a lot for posting the lyrics, VIP! Good job!

there's a big difference in a groupie and a fan. fans love his music. and groupies love his dick and wanna be slutted out by him and disrespected by him. and in the end get nothing from him but a wet ass. he has no love for them hos. i'm not his groupie and never will be. i'm just a fan of his music. his 'real' female fans should not be compared to groupie hos, who will do anything to get his dick...

    What is a Groupie?

    What is a Groupie?

A groupie is generally considered an avid, often female, fan of a band or musical performer. The term derives from the female attaching herself to a group, the band. While the band is the group, the female is the groupie. Naturally, not all fans are groupies, and not all groupies are females. Further, there are now groupies of sports teams or players, actors, and oddly enough, high profile criminals.
A groupie is considered more intense about her adored celebrities than a fan. A fan might have all the albums and a few pictures of her favorite band. She or he might also attend all the band’s performances within reasonable distance to his or her hometown. A groupie tends to follow the band, perhaps almost touring with them. The groupie will attempt contact with the band, either conversational or sexual in nature, and may become an annoyance by virtually stalking band members.

Obsessive groupies will almost certainly involve themselves sexually with any members of the band including the roadies. Even if rejected, the groupie will usually keep trying with the goal of being considered part of the band, or important to a member of the band. The relationship of an obsessive groupie to a band is like a love relationship gone badly wrong. The obsessive groupie has little interest in anything but matters pertaining to the band.
Unfortunately, such groupies are also fueled by the “sex, drugs and rock and roll,” atmosphere of most popular bands and artists. With sex offered, and frequently drugs available, a groupie can easily become somewhat delusional about her importance. This type of relationship is well documented in Cameron Crowe’s film Almost Famous, where the lead groupie, brilliantly acted by Kate Hudson, overdoses on drugs after having been used and then rejected by the lead guitarist.

Based on Crowe’s real experiences as a very young writer, the film is a compassionate look at both men and women losing themselves in their casual use of each other, and their disregard for each other much fueled by excessive use of both alcohol and drugs. Crowe’s conclusion is that these temporary relationships are harmful and tragic. The groupie environment is one that hurts everyone associated with the band.
Not all musicians or groupies would necessarily take that stance. Many feel their experiences have been fantastic and wouldn’t change a thing. Pamela Des Barres novel I’m with The Band for example, is a positive look at the sexually charged groupie environment of the late 1960s and early 70s. The book is very frank and Des Barres does not spare the reader from excessive detail about her sexual escapades. The book seems more like bragging regarding a lifestyle, than an expression of regret for her choices. Many band members certainly take advantage of offers of sexual intercourse. Gene Simmons of KISS has claimed having intercourse with over 4000 women during band tours.

While there are still many groupies, a bit more caution now applies in the post HIV era. Some of the better musicians, like Freddy Mercury of Queen, died of complications from AIDs. It is certain that many years of unprotected sexual intercourse with multiple partners increased Mercury’s chance of contracting HIV. His death brought awareness to many musicians who have since attempted to reform their lifestyle, or to at least be more cautious in their approach to casual sex with groupies.

Agreed...Even though he did call this song "A Number 1 Fan", the lyrics is all about groupies...I don't think he looks at his female fans mostly as groupie material, so I guess he named it that not to sound too um...crude.

At the end of the day, this song is no different from his tunes boasting about his sex appeal that comes with his image and fortune&fame cuz...as Chelle said, he would probably say "I don't law (love) dem hoes" (in Snoop's voice) in real life and he only loves them for what they got and they can give him.

Well, I've gotten used to this type of song from him, so I'm not gettin mad no more. But it doesn't mean I dig it.

I do not see this song as a thank you to his fans. If anything I feel its a offensive to his true female fans, whereby Chelle has touched on. This song if anything is only putting unnecessary delusional ideas in his groupies and jump-offs head.

In addition, a definition of a fan is "a person enthusiastic about a specified sport, pastime, or performer; devotee".

I am certainly not a groupie. I admired his music and his talents but that's as far as it goes.

LOL Damn I never knew people would take this song that serious... he just desperately trying to get a radio hit that will get play in clubs. The females fans that know they aint a groupie shouldn't put up they guards like dat he not talking bout you even though the song is called #1 Fan. You know how many times they hear that when they go around the world. A dude could be his number one fan. Be in reality it doesn't exists how can someone rank themselves over another fan lol be honest that discussion would last forever. Maybe he should've just scapped the entire idea for the song because plently of other people made the same type of song just coming from a different perspective.

i didn't take this song serious. i was just establishing the difference between a fan and a groupie. the song is named #1 fan. but in the song he mentions his 'groupies' several times. and yes a dude could be his groupie..but i don't think he was referring to men when he made this song (even though some males would love it if he went that way). but anyway i'm not trying to take his groupies joy over this song. just letting it be known that all of his female fans are not delusional groupies.

I don't take this song serious, either. Rather, it's my knee-jerk reaction to yet another song about seducing and fucking women and boasting about it. Also, the cheating part, it makes me frown cuz he sings about it as if it's some exciting game and he's already gone there with Kickin it with yo Girlfriend. The theme and tone of this song have been repeated many times. I'm far from a goody-goody and do think songs can deal with everything from celestial to vile, but when the negative things get repeated in an amusing tone and it's not for irony or satire, it's just tiring.
