Anyone who has witnessed the Pied Piper of R&B afloat in the "Step in the Name of Love" video hoped that this day would eventually come: R. Kelly is hosting the Love Letter Cruise in October 2012. Embarking October 1-5 from Miami aboard the comfortable Carnival Destiny, this is a bold new step for sea-faring entertainment. Talk about trapped on the Lido Deck.
Ever since "the finer things in life" became part of the Kelly image, this guy probably could've done more to attach his name to various products -- chocolates, seat covers, jewelry, and heaven knows what sort of luxury "adult" items -- but as we've seen with other musicians, the cruise has become the ultimate in mutual appreciation between artist and fans. It's certainly better received than any Black & White Party on land could ever hope to be.
Well, the only way you might let it pass if you're not prepared to plunk down a minimum of $1,499 per person. Remember what we said about the finer things? The R. Kelly experience doesn't come cheap.
So far, he is the only artist scheduled to perform, but between now and October, it's more than likely that some other attractions are going to get in on the scarf-waving action. We'd love to see a collection of equally silky-voiced R&B fare like Lloyd and some strong female vocalists like Jazmine Sullivan join this bill.
What we do know is that there are a lot of on-board activities. Stepping classes were a no-brainer for this one, but respect for a music cruise with its own game show and a 12-play basketball tournament. Obviously, these activities will be the best if Kelly is spending a lot of time outside his luxurious personal chambers to judge and participate.
So can R. Kelly fans match the intensity of the Kiss Navy or the sheer partying will of the Bruise Cruise? Time will tell, and we'll certainly do our best to report it here. And for anyone who needs a refresher on the R. Kelly boat experience:
R. Kelly Love Letter Cruise. October 1-5, 2012. Port of Miami, 1015 N. America Way, Miami. Tickets cost $1,499 to $2,999 per person; reserve by December 17, 2011 to receive at $250 discount per person. Click here.

since its a cruise it'll be amazing if there was a segment where he sits behind a piano and sing as well
