    strobelight R.Kelly: "Im the Greatest"

LOL! I think this is a good strategy. Think about it: R.Kelly's camp is trying to get the media to talk about his EGO rather than his allegations. Smart.

I need to get that magazine...

May 16, 2007 -- NOTE to R. Kelly's ego: Come back to Earth! The full-of-himself R&B great tells the new issue Hip-Hop Soul: "My greatest competition is, well, me . . . I'm the Ali of today. I'm the Marvin Gaye of today. I'm the Bob Marley of today. I'm the Martin Luther King, or all the other greats that have come before us. And a lot of people are starting to realize that now." Maybe this will humble him - Kelly's trial on child porn charges is finally expected to start this summer.

    Maira Oliveira - AHN Reporter
Los Angeles, CA (BANG) - R. Kelly has pronounced himself the greatest black man of his generation.
The "I Believe I Can Fly" singer claims he is as iconic and talented in hisfield as a host of important black figures, including boxing legend Muhammad Ali.
He told Hip-Hop Soul magazine: "I'm the Ali of today. I'm the Marvin Gaye of today. I'm the Bob Marley of today. I'm the Martin Luther King, or all the other greats that have come before us. And a lot of people are starting to realize that now."
Kelly has also boasted no current musical artist can compare to his incredible talents.
He added: "My greatest competition is, well, me."
Meanwhile, Kelly's trial for charges of soliciting a minor for pornography purposes is finally expected to begin this summer.

I think this is going to backfire, if that's their strategy. I already heard this reported on Russ Parr show this morning and they clearly said that R. Kelly said that he is better than Marvin Gaye and Bob Marley. And I was thinking to myself I can't believe R. Kelly would say something like that. But now that I read it, I see that he said "...of today." But my point is the haters hate him cause of the charges so this will only add more fuel to the fire. As you see, both articles still brought up the charges. But that's just my opinion. I could be wrong.

    ^ ^ yeah...i saw that too.

but the fact is: he IS the greatest of today. and even people who hate him cant deny his talent and his hit-making ability.

plus this adds media attention: be it GOOD or BAD. how else do you think paris' album sold close to 500,000 copies?

also, i think the strategy is sound. i would rather critics and news media be arguing about if he IS the greatest or how he is NOT the greatest than the whole article being about his charges.

when you are in the position r.kelly is in its a catch22. pick the LESS of the poisons.

Most definitely he is the greatest. Like you said, it's a catch 22 with him.

Kells didn't say anything really new there. He is an icon in his field, but people will find controversy where they want it.

its good for him to say cuz it causes debate. he's doin all the right stuff leadin up to the album. and the thing about when u say certain things is: can you back it up? clearly he can and its alot of people that will support his claim, so i think it was good. the MLK thing coulda been left out but who knows maybe he will rise to that challenge

He is the greatest of today. That's not questionable or worth arguing, no matter how you feel about him. Even the Russ Parr Morning Show had to agree on that.

Musically he is the greatest of all today. He wouldn't be who he is today without the influences of those who came before him though. I agree with gsteezy, not sure about the MLK comparison, but he was prolly just speaking tounge in cheek. But if it stirs up conversation and more cd sales, its all good. Glad it was in written media, a video of him saying those things might be too much.
