JANUARY 2--A young R&B singer charges that he was bounced as an opening act for R. Kelly after he outshined the headliner at the opening dates of Kelly's current North American tour. The singer Ne-Yo (real name: Shaffer Smith) claims that he was set to earn $785,000 for opening for Kelly at a minimum of 25 concerts. But he says was bounced from the tour after a pair of shows in mid-November, though audience reaction to his set was strong. In a December 31 Los Angeles Superior Court lawsuit, Shaffer, 28, alleges that he was dumped because crowd and press reaction to his performance was "more favorable" than R. Kelly's notices. what i find AMAZING is that the suit is against the promoter but most of these sites are reporting that he is suing R.Kelly......

also, what the fuck does the promoter care who is more popular??? they are getting paid no matter what.

Also, I seriously doubt anybody could outshine Kells. I've never been to a concert of his, but I own the Light it up tour dvd and have seen bits and pieces of the DU tour on youtube and all I can say is--THE MAN KNOWS HOW TO OWN A CROWD. Period. End of story.

allhiphop and mediatakeout are the ones reporting that its Kellz hes suing. when the court documents clearly state its the promoter being sued.

1. NeYo is NOT a rapper.
2. NeYo, who is NOT a rapper did not sue an R.Kelly promoter. He sued Rowe Entertainment who was promoting the entire Tour (Kellz, Keyshia, J. and Neyo).
3. NeYo, who is NOT a rapper, did not get fired by the reported R.Kelly promoter who in fact is promoting the entire tour, not just R.Kelly. Neyo was booted off of the tour because Rowe couldnt get the necessary signatures and authorizations to officially alllow him to be a part of the tour.

Fuckin media.

$785,000 divided by 25 shows is $31,400 per show. I'm just glad Kells isn't named.

It was impossible for him to sue Kells cause the promoter dropped him NOT KELLY...but I don't see this going anywhere. Also why is he mentioning that he was dropped because he outshined Kelly do you actually think a promoter would drop someone and risk being sued because one artist outshined another.

Why is Ne-Yo bein such a little bitch about this? WAY too much hatin going on. Especially considering he got $50,000 for TWO performances. That's pretty good in my book. I'd take my money and shut up about it.

This is all completely ridiculous. I'm amazed at how the media blows things out of proportion. "Ne-Yo Slaps R.Kelly with Lawsuit" They are DEFINITELY suing the tour company and not Kellz so all these headlines are false. Ne-Yo is not "slapping" Kellz with any lawsuit. Kellz won't even be involved. And Ne-Yo must be crazy thinking he was the main act of the show. Obviously he still doesn't get it. He is not now, nor will he ever be better than Kellz. He doesn't even come close. The reviews I read when Ne-Yo was on the tour barely mentioned him so I don't know where they're getting that from.
