Thread: Why do you think R. Kelly is more known for his sexual songs?

Ok...we all knw that kellz is more dominant when he sings songs about sex, however, when ppl refer to kellz u almost never hear ppl talk about "I believe I can Fly" or "Step In the Name of Love"...Both of the ladder songs were huge hits for him, however, ppl always call him the "Bump N Grind" or "Ignition" singer....why do u think mainly critics and fans think that?

And why do u think he's more dominant with his more sexual songs?

A few reasons......

I don't dig him but that politician Anthony Weiner will always be known as the guy who sent out dirty pictures of himself and not a civil servant who tried to help the poor

B/c sex is so salacious and juicy......Look at the church? People want to talk about priests and ministers having affairs and molesting kids more than the priests/ministers helping the poor and homeless and spreading the good word

Actually I think over here he is known for his more serious songs. I Believe I Can Fly, World's Greatest, If I Could Turn Back the Hands of Time... Ignition too, but a lot of people don't seem to get what the song is actually about somehow.

lol!!! really? well that's good that he is also known for the more serious songs. I don't knw what it is about "Ignition" but ppl love that song...Ppl still talk about it to this day, like oh Kellz needs to make another "Ignition"....u knw he's not real known for "World's Greatest" here in the states...ppl know of the song but its not on the top of their dome like his more sexual songs...

I'd say after Ignition that World's Greatest is probably his second most known song here, with the younger audience anyway, I Believe I Can Fly probably is with the older audience. Whenever I talk to people about Rob the person I'm talking to always brings up World's Greatest

Well he's the best crooner of his time. Nobody after him has made sex songs that compare to his. He doesn't have a successor yet. He's the champ and that's what he's known as. People know R.Kelly is among the greats.

I think a big part of it is just sex is so "scandalous" in the US. In many parts of the world, the dominant culture views sex as natural, normal, and even fun. I think America has a fixation on sex... and besides, sex sells, and so many groups are trying to repress sex in this country. On the one hand, a part of me likes kellz' sex songs because they are so over the top and kinda radical, but I think a lot of people in the country (US) use the sex as a way of stereotyping and keeping him down. Sex is scary. NOT.

he's so real with his sex songs!!! it aint on no little kiddy shit either....lol on some grown man shit! his raunchy sex songs and his romatic sex songs are all so real!!!!

because they are strong songs and vocally he puts something into them and folks relate to it strongly.
