my dime on it, the album was uneven and the songs at best were 2nd tier and they also featured co writes and co production which seemed phoned in.

no money tracks on there and there wasn't any buzz whatsoever.

he seemed bored and just put it out. it was the kind of album he could do in his sleep. glad he got inspired with LL and came back strong. i still say 05-09 was hit and Miss for him IMO.

when its broke down like that, wow. its mine but you would think R. would be everybody's favorite album since that one was his "Thriller" album & seeing it went diamond & then some. Yes everything we stated about Untitled may be the case but I can never wrap my mind around the album not even going gold. How do an artist as iconic as Kelly have that big of drop off even though the album had perceivably no direction? Where the hell are the rest of those 11.5 million so called "fans."

^^Because ppl lose interest in artists sometimes.. every great artist has a "flop" album..From what I hear, "fans" were beginning to lose interest around TP3 and DU.. so I guess they didn't give "Untitled" a chance..idk but the good thing is he bounced back...

And I agree w/ other posts, for untitled to be a flop, other male artists have copied that formula..

Very True Lovely... I also think he didnt put energy into promoting it himself because of what he was going through in his personal life. He also needed that album to flop imo to motivate him to come back strong. Look how many albums he's released since 92 I bet he was pretty damn bored with music. So he needed some motivation and Untitled flopping was the motivation for him to go into hiding in that studio and create that classic album he dropped a year ago.
You're so beautiful... How can I make you understand that I wanna kiss and I wanna touch every little inch of your body. - R. Kelly

well said by you guys. I can see how not putting out quality work can have show its affects even with Kelly having a following as he does. plus the co production & co writing as well. I agree he needed for Untitled to fail to come back even stronger which is why LL may have went under the radar for so long.

The reason "Untitled" didn't sell that much was a lack of promotion and a lack of dedication to make it a succes! It had a banger in the name of "Echo" that song had everything to become a smash but then they fucked up with the promotion and the video. As much as R. Kelly loved the album (as i was told) i really believe that he wasn't fully focused to make it a succes. And as much as i like "Untitled" that album would fit Trey Songz or any other young R&B act more than it fits R. Kelly!
It wasn't something special, something people never heard before, it was the same old stuff the young R&B cats are doing, that's why it didn't stand out!

I can't really answer the sales question as to why it flopped, but i would guess it wasn't the album that his 'older' fans wanted, wasn't promoted well enough and greatest reason would be the lack of a big single on it.
from a critical perspective, it was an under par R Kelly album, but i consider it better than most albums of that genre that dropped in the same calendar year. The album actually sounds better to me now than it did when it came out, it still gets spins.

My sentiments exactly. It's a totally uninspired album IMO. And co writing and co production is always a no no from me. If it ain't broke, why fix it?

Im my opinion 'Untitled' isn't good enough for R. Kelly, maybe it is for a Trey Songz, a Chris Brown or an Usher... but definitely not for Rob.

Idk i think songs like Im' a flirt really helped to sell Double Up. Doesn't feel like the single of Untitled really caught on. Or maybe it's just ,e
