Thread: Significance of 'Double Up' to Rap/HipHop

What is the significance of 'Double Up' to the rap/hiphop world?

How do you think the rap world reacted when this album that is heavily rap/hiphop oriented and has R.Kelly sing rapping with flow better than almost any other actual "rapper" hit Billboard its 1st week like this compared to flagship rap artists:

JayZ = 600,000
TI = 500,000
R.Kelly = 390,000
The Game = 335,000
Ludacris = 300,000
Nas = 300,000
Snoop = 240,000
Lil Wayne = 166,000

...is it possible to nominate R.Kelly for BOTH R&B and HipHop album awards? LOL!

We all know that from an R-and-B stand point Double Up just doesnt cut it...but from a hiphop prespective: How significant is Double Up??

From a hip hop stand point Double Up is as significant as any other hip hop album dedicated to rides, cash, clubs and bitches.

it don't mean a Damn thing. now back in 1998 it might have meant something.but then again Lauyren Hill's Miseducation already bridged those two worlds far better. she Sang and flowed and it worked. in alot of ways this Album is the trilogy of Best of Both worlds and Unfinished Business. in other words more Hype than actual Hip IMO.

lauryn hill's contribution was significant. but its been one of her (if not the ONLY) few contributions. and i think back in 1998 (if not even before) r.kelly was doing a lot of what has evolved to be the double up album. its just that it was never an entire album.

i just, personally, dont like where rap is going. Pop lock and drop it type BS or Walk it Out (horrible song) are bogus.

the worst rap song on double up is miles ahead of top rap songs out right now.

Lauyren Hill did it way better IMO.R.Kelly was able to blend R&B,Pop and Rap together into a Fusion,but he did his best tracks with Biggie, Nas,DJ Quik and other cats back in the day along with good chemistry with Snoop Dogg. I gotta disagree with the worst Rap Song on Double Up being miles ahead of what is on top of the Rap charts now.to me they are equally bad. Chamillionarie,Nelly,Huey, are all tired. the cut with Ludacris would have worked a few years back,but with "Party like a Rock Star" out not good timing on that. if you don't like where Rap is Going then you can't like where R.Kelly is going with it because Kellz just took what is happening and who is happening and rode with that on this Project and has always more or less rolled like that aside when he worked with his chicago brotheren.

AZ you awalys seem to ask the most deepest shit, that have just thinking. I'm have to really think about this one and come back.
