Default Rob's Musical Influences and His Music

Rob is truly a student of music and I often hear him talk about being influenced by MJ, Marvin, and Sam. Who are some of your favorite artists who have influenced Rob? Why do you think Rob admires them so much? What has he taken from these artists in your opinion? What songs can you hear this artist's influence on Rob? Finally, would you like to hear more of this style from Rob?

    Here are a couple examples:

"You Made Me Love You" - influenced by Al Green.
I love Reverend Al and his soulful, churchy, southern sound is written all over this song from Rob. I would love to hear Rob do this style again because he shines when he does this style.

"Feeling on Your Booty" - influenced by Al Jarrau.
What can I say about this song? The boo-ootyyy run was too cold. I love when Rob does the unexpected and I think he really enjoys the voice instrumentation thing that Al Jarrau does within his music. I would like to see him go further with with this jazzy,skat-influenced type of thing with his voice. Maybe even full fledged like Bobby McFerrin. I think Rob captures Al's fun/joy when performing a song.

"Slow Wind" and "Ghetto Religion" featuring Wyclef. - influenced by Bob Marley.
Robert Nesta Marley is written all over these songs. I would love to hear more roots and rub-a-dub influenced reggae sound from Rob because he can really pull this off. Although, Rob doesn't do it as much, I think he captures Bob's social awareness through song. I would love to hear more consciousness (misp?) from Rob through his music. He does it, but an entire album would do me well too. I think Rob captures Bob's ability to tell a story as well.

"Love Street" - Frankie Beverly/Maze influenced.
I love Frankie Beverly's voice and Rob does this style so well. I would love to see these two work together in some way. I think Rob captures Frankie's longevity and sense of being a ghetto superstar. Frankie can tour everyday, every year and have sold out shows because his audience appreciates him, just like Rob imo.

There are so many more but I don't want to fill the thread with all of my thoughts just yet

Well i have an old soul so I pretty much like all of his musical influences...I love Marvin Gaye and The Isley Brothers, and of course Michael Jackson....I believe he admires these artists because they were masters at their craft and they cared about their music as well....I think Rob and Marvin actually share the most similarities as far as stage personas are concerned...They both have that "ladies man, smoothness" about themselves...
