Thread: R.Kelly singing the Stevie wonder Growl

what song or songs best capture the Stevie Wonder Growl? there is a part in "Some things never change" near the end where Kellz does that Stevie Growl and it is like WOW! he sounds a whole lot like him.

i can't think which chapter of trapped in the closet but he did very strongly.


the Growl of Stevie Wonder is heard strongly by Stevie Wonder toward the end of "Living for the city" hsi voice takes on this rough and rugged tone and I call it the Stevie Wonder Growl which in truth R.Kelly is the Only Artist that I have heard that has that Growl of Stevie's down pat.

quite a few acts have been influenced by Stevie and can even emulate a bit his tenor and basic tone, but that Growl is rough and not many have ventured there as Kellz.

Wow! I can't think of the song and its on the tip of my tongue!!! ugghhh i hate when that happens...lol

I think he did it on "You Bring Me Joy" but I'm not 100% sure. Anyway, I love the growl too. I think R. does the best Stevie Wonder impersonation.

Remember the '96 Down Low Tour where he did a whole Stevie Wonder tribute part

"Just Like That" on LL where he says, "...got my mind, body, S-OOOULL", I love it!

I don't know if he does it in "Dream Girl" but that song has Stevie written all over it with or without the growl.

. He loves Stevie soooo much. I really hope Stevie will record some of Rob's material. I know that would be a dream come true. *Side note* I remember when this first aired and I'm thinking the same thing I thougth then, Him and those darn shades---uuugggh!!!

on a "Whole Lotta Kisses" he takes a lil bit of "All I Do" with the "Baby You Got Me Down On My Knees Ready To Kiss You Baaaabbbyy" compared to Stevie's "All I Do Is Think About You Baaaabbbyyy"

I know exactly what mistermaxxx is talking about.
Stevie does have a strong growl in his voice.
Yeah, Something's Never Change is the perfect example.
Kellz def. pulled it off.


Actually, I can't think of any other examples where Kellz did the EXACT SAME type of growl.
But we got some more where we can hear the less intense, shorter version of it.
