R. Kelly needs funding -- AND QUICK -- because the singer tells TMZ he's ready to film THIRTY TWO new chapters of his legendary hip-hopera "Trapped in the Closet" ... but he needs financial backing first.

When we last saw "Trapped" ... the year was 2007 and Kelly had released 22 chapters, involving a little person who crapped his pants ... a neighbor with the spatula ... and a pimp with the stuttering problem.

Now, Kelly -- who was leaving an L.A. gym yesterday -- tells us he wants to continue the saga -- "but it costs a lot of money to do ... so we're actually looking for investors."

Would be cool if Kellz released some more chapters

OMG kellz and trapped in the closet are top trending topics on twitter, wow!!

He has been sounding out that he had more chapters for quite sometime ... I'm talking a good 4 years, he'll only get the investment if an investor looks at the previous chapters DVD sales and see they made money, its ok getting alot of hype but that doesnt neccessarily turn into $$$$ ...

I honestly hope he looks more at investment to back up his albums rather than the TITC saga ... looking at how TITC is portrayed by the media I think its best he leaves it behind him

I was so excited to hear this news!!!!! The reaction on twitter has been mostly positive from what I've seen. I hope he gets an investor so he can finish the series. People wanna know how it ends! An unfinished movie is no fun. Lol.

@12plr, I was just telling a naysayer that earlier on twitter. if you have a market asking for something, why not? plus all investors have to do is look at what TP3 & the dvd's sold to see that the series does have a market. lets see if RCA steps up & supports TITC when Jive.

Personally, I don't want more TITC BUT a lot of people do so it's a good business move. We all know Rob doesn't really think about how the media thinks of him. He may as well milk it as long as people want it.

I guess I'm the only one that trully aint that excited about this. I liked it for the time that it was hot but to be honest it really took away from TP3. Most people say the music didnt really deliver. I think not I think Trapped In The Closet just overshadowed the Hood Classic : TP3 (Everyone in my hood loved that album so I'm giving it that title) but of course if it ever surfaces I'll support it just like I've always have.

The way Rob spoke about it wasnt like he was pushing for it, he was just repeating something that he's said quite a few times before - only this time it was to someone who was enthusiastic about the original Chapters and wasnt aware that there were more. Trapped can remain unfinished for now, its all about the actual records right now.
