Do we want R. Kelly to be successful or to make good quality music ? I want both but when I had to choose only one of those, it would be good music. Sad to say so, but I realize that Hip hop and R&B music got boring to me, at least that music that's on the charts.

I hope he broadens subject matter when he do hiphip collabos. And bless us his soulful music. For him, doin soul music is very commercial right now. Neo- or not, all those soul fans(of, say, as far as keepin it contemporaray, Maxwell, Erykah Badu, Anthony Hamilton, Jill Scott, Musiq, Angie Stone, et.al...y'all know who I'm talkin bout....those type of artists who are usually called 'soulful' by the media as well as the public) would flock to R.Kelly album section and make his album dominating on many charts. The fan base outside here seems very large. They ain't die-hard fans, but they buy his music when they feel like cuz they're very fluid.

The main problem is: Hip Hop is dead. Hip Hop gained popularity, popularity brought mainstream, mainstream brought hip hop down. There is no more good rap music on the charts.
you'll get some kind of a "word" on that one.. The rap you can hear on the charts is bullshit (most of it)

Hip hop isn't dead it's like some peoples houses. If you have people in and out of your house everyday and you don't stay home long enough to keep it clean then its eventually gonna turn into a shack. Hip Hop is getting close to being a shack. It's beginning to look like a ghost town. I mean in the past we had LL Cool J, Salt n Peppa, Chubb Rock, Public Enemy, Big Daddy Kane, Heavy D and The Boyz, Hammer, Queen Latifah, Special Ed, Slick Rick, Kris Kross, Run DMC, EPMD, Das Effect, NWA, Naughty by Nature, Pete Rock and CL Smooth, Wu Tang, Tupac and Biggie, DMX, Foxy and Lil Kim and many others wrecking shop. Look! We don't even use the phase wrecking shop no more! It seems to me the dirty south has taken over the airwaves. No more East vs. West! Hip Hop will never produce great talent like we had it the past.

I think the reason he isn't as successful with Hip Hop tracks on his albums compared to others is because he doesn't stay in his lane.

What I mean by that is when Kells is on someone else's track he plays to his strength, singing and singing great hooks. When it's his own song he tries to outdo the rapper at his own game. Someone mentioned earlier that they only recall Fiesta and Did You Ever Think Remix. The reason they work is that he's singing the song. It's not that rap singing style. That's why no BOBW single ever caught on big I feel.

To most people, R.Kelly ain't a rapper, but a R&B singersongwriter+producer with hiphop mentality. So, when he puts some hiphop collabos on his own album, people expect far more than what it needs to be a good hiphop song. Not to mention the level of expectation based on his musicianship. So, when it comes down to hiphip collabos, I hope he makes less and instead puts a whole lot more different ideas and concepts. He's got this hiphop flow in him and lay it down so effortlessly and naturally. It sounds good that way. But, I hope he makes those songs more memorable gigs of his career. I don't mean he needs to cut off all club tracks and rap like the so-called 'conscious rappers' such as Common and Talib Kwali(sp?).

when hes on other peoples records i think he wants to impress others but on his own the competitions not there 'cause its his own....

if R. was to do a Hip Hop tune that actualli meant something more than the club then the tunes on Double Up would be much better....

i think he knows what he should be doing but doesnt want to do it, for some absurd reason

I've enjoyed most of R. Kelly hip hop tracks, whether produced by him or others. I know some don't feel that way but hearing his voice in a song is a breath of fresh air. Oh sure, I'm an R&B/Soul guy at heart and I would prefer he do another R&B/Soul but if he wants to do hip hop songs for now, then I'm cool with that too.

    IMO....
    First of all,
1)the outside pressure to sell and stay on the charts and radios
2)the inside desire to get love from a wide range of people
;He seems to love gettin heavy air-plays and reactions. Who wouldn't love this? But, I feel he really loves it and he's more of a lover of mass appeal. You know, he ain't the type of artist who puts one's artistic ego first and most. Not only in that his sales have been great, he's been commercial for this reason as well.

But, I think it's much more commercial for him to do a straight R&B/Soul record nowadays. So many people hope to hear it from R.Kelly, the most commercial R&B artist today. They got some neo-soul artists, but they always can't depend on them. They ain't got the commercial power and appeal that Kellz has, so sometimes have a lot of roadblocks before release. Just look at Maxwell.
