He talked about the new album on Access Granted tonight. He said he had a lot of albums thats coming, but he said that "Double Up" would be a collabo album, and would consists of 70% hip hop and 30% R&B. This news was a little disappointing in a way because I would rather the percentages be the other way around. I'm definitely still going to buy the album, I may even buy 3 or 4, but I still would rather listen to the R&B side of R. Kelly. I'm sure it will still be very creative though. Just pray he doesn't have any wack rappers on there.

I co-sign the comment about have the percentage the other way and praying he doesn't have any wack rappers on the cd.
Thanks for the info. Agreed completely. The name "Double Up" gave me a hint that the album might lean toward (much) more to hiphop for some reason. I already didn't like it when I heard "I'm A Flirt" remix gonna be there, and hoped it was the only or one of a few rap collabos. I'm gonna support it anyway and won't jump to a conclusion til I listen to the whole album.

Yeah, we all wish we can go back in time to a place where albums like "12-Play" and "R.Kelly" albums ruled the charts and ruled the styles of music. But its almost 2010 people! Yeah...WHOA. Things change. And R.Kelly being the artist he is, is changing along with the music. He has ALWAYS been on the cutting edge and 2007 is no different from 1987 and 1997: he is making history and changing it.
Im ready for this album. R.Kelly can sing, he can write, produce, compose and arrange and you know all the songs are gonna be fire.
Had to put that out there. The "collabs" thing has been catching a lot of heat on the board.
but, i love yall.

I understand your point. About changing....change could mean 2 kinds....depending on where it originates relatively more from-within or outside him: Kellz himself goin to another level within R.Kelly standard or follwing the industry norm nowdays, IMO. From R.Kelly, folks wanna see the former more cuz he ain't just some rookie anymore whether they agree that he's a legend or not. But he ain't 100% free to do that in the massive system of music industry where it's about money, money, money, AND money at the end of the day. And... You don't do your own music strictly speaking cuz you musically interact with other artists. But, if collabos ain't healthy relationships for creativity, but mere happenings, that's not good, IMO. I don't hate all kinds of collabos of him and other rappers, but honestly, can't like everything, either. Then, only slow james or inspirational tunes I wanna hear? Nah....He's too versatile to stick to a certain kind. In the end, I can just think, 'Even though he's a vet with consistent commercial success on his resume, it seems tough to survive without follwing the major flow of the river.' while supporting his upcoming album like crazy.
Because when you work with a hack like T- Pain aka Strain,Young Jeezy,Bow WOW! that is Scurry IMO. I just feel it's the Jive Brass forcing this Issue on him personally. to be Honest with you, JMO: Kellz is bored of the stuff he has to do on the real. I mean he can do this in his sleep. He wants to expand. yes He has the talent to work with any Rapper or R&B Act there is,but He is show much more than what he is allowed to do. aside from the Musical Virus Project, Mid tempo projects, Stepping projects I wish He could do a whole Project with a Brian Mcknight.
it's called balance&we are always down with the Brother no matter what, but we can be real. He can do better and that is what I'm getting at. oh I know that the Album will have a smoking Joint&then some, but I also get the feeling that he is just doing whatever to a medium point to satisfy the Jive Brass.
I guess its a little bit of a downer that its 70% hip hop... Its just kind of following where he left off with TP3. I hope if he's gonna have all these collabs on there, at least have some good collabs with other singers. That said the album is the only album I have pencilled in to purchase this year
