    my dime

not ahead of his time, but one heck of a hybrid force who takes the best of yesterday and surely knows how to make it work today.

he can channel Sam Cooke, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, marvin gaye, isleys and still do something along the lines of Snoop or LL and not miss a beat.

he has that unique ability to beat you in so many ways.

to me he is the most important Black Male Artist since the dominant days of Michael Jackson.

ain't been alot of artists that i would say that were ahead of there time. folks like Louis Armstrong, James Brown, Miles Davis, Jimi Hendrix, Sly Stone, the Beatles,Stevie Wonder,John Coltrane

I feel you and understand what ur saying and agree with you....he def. knows how to channel certain artists and eras and make it his own. but idk, maybe im bias but i do think he's ahead of his time.....Lol

Maybe, we have different definitions of "ahead of his time" because I don't understand how anyone can deny R. Kelly being ahead of his time, lol.

you know what, now that I think about it, I would guess he is. what other artist can switch up between musical genres, write, produce, direct & run a label? other artist may look at his blueprint & see you have to be more dynamic, multidimensional than just a one trick pony. i'm sure that will be the case in the future for many artist. so I would say ahead of his time & timeless.

Maybe not ahead of HIS time but he is definitely ahead of THIS time we find ourselves in.

In a few years expect these boys out now to make albums like Love Letter and claim that they're making 'revolutionary R&B' or whatever silly name they'll give it
Love is strong; Love is tight

I would say no he's not ahead of his time, however, when I think about "Trapped In the Closet" series I'm kinda torn. I don't care what you personally think about the series, no one is really ready or can handle this creativeness in front of out eyes. It's unbelievable and no one besides him would be able to come up with this and actually do it. Especially in this day and time with how the music industry is.

I would say so only in this sense, he figured out a way to use social media and the Internet as a way to make an impact with TITC. Creating those chapters created such a buzz online, it was crazy. People were posting them on YouTube as soon as the videos were available. He then followed it up by creating trailers for the second DVD online and produced a Real Talk and posted on YouTube. Nowadays everyone's doing in, but in 2006 it was still sacrilege to promote that way.

I think that's one reason why he has such a big following with indie artists. In some ways he uses a lot of the same techniques they have to use to market themselves. Even up to a few years ago when we had footage of him in the studio messing around with some steppin' songs was different. A year later Kanye takes to a new level by promoting new track weekly before his CD launches.

To me, that's going to be part of his legacy.

I appreciate you bringing this up.
I guess now he's one of the most active artists doing it among those who have been in the game as long as he has been.
Well, very few of them are still hot, tho.
