Default Do you think R.Kelly is ahead of his time?

I remember going on youtube and I saw a comment stating that kellz was ahead of his time...and I started thinking...and now I see what that person meant...

If you listen to "I Wish"...some of the words ring true to what's been going on with him within the last 10 yrs...

Listen to "One me" and the lyrics ring VERY true 2day...i remember him poking fun at him having clones and that was his inspiration, however, that song is still relevant 2day...

    what do u guys think?

I just listened to 'if i could turn back the hands of time' and that def. sounds like a 50's 60's song

No I do not think he is ahead of his time. Only person I would say that about is Prince. However Rob makes TIMELESS music.

another thing i realized; u notice how throughout his career...he's always made little skits and/or conversations in his music; contagious, friend of mine, national anthem with kelly price, fly (from the loveland about him tryin to get into Heaven), 3 way phone call, i dont mean it (i mean), etc. and how that led to him creating the trapped in the closet series (in my opinion) which is all conversations and singing details? so in my opinion he's def. ahead of his time and i think we're in for a real treat in the future! i cant wait to see whats in store!

    R. Kelly always has been ahead of his time.

    Dancing with a Rich Man
    Reality
    Half On A Baby
    2nd R. Kelly
    The Chase
If I Could Turn Back The Hands of Time
    Trade In My Life
    The Opera
    Thank God It's Friday
    A Woman's Threat
    I Wish

    etc.

He has the ability to tap into different styles and era of music, not many can do that.

Nah. His last classic album was The Gold Experience. Love Prince but he's still stuck in the 80's.

Well, being "ahead of his time" having its meaning in the very context Lovely is talking about, I don't think I can say "Yes." I'd rather word it differently, like, "R.Kelly writes relatable stuff", meaning "He writes about universal themes that trascends time and space, both for himself and others."
The things said about I Wish and One Man are not wrong, but that does not mean his music is something like psychics do.

If "ahead of his time" is used to mean what is usually meant, I'd say "No."
He's always been too commercial and popular to be called that.

Like Perch said, I wouldnt say ahead of his time but timeless. I think Kelly is the most enigmatic, misunderstood artist we've seen

    my dime

not ahead of his time, but one heck of a hybrid force who takes the best of yesterday and surely knows how to make it work today.

he can channel Sam Cooke, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, marvin gaye, isleys and still do something along the lines of Snoop or LL and not miss a beat.

he has that unique ability to beat you in so many ways.

to me he is the most important Black Male Artist since the dominant days of Michael Jackson.

ain't been alot of artists that i would say that were ahead of there time. folks like Louis Armstrong, James Brown, Miles Davis, Jimi Hendrix, Sly Stone, the Beatles,Stevie Wonder,John Coltrane
