Thread: which album made kellz an icon?

At one point of his career did kellz become an R&B icon??

Imo it was after the double disc "R" album..


what is you guys opinion?

12 Play made him a R&B icon.

R. made him a Pop icon.

im gonna go with the R. double album, that album took him to a whole different level!

I believe I can fly was from the space jam soundtrack and made it onto the R album AFTER the space jam album dropped and took off....

The album that made him an icon? 12play of course......

You can sing "Bump n Grind" "your bodys calling me" "it seems like your ready" (which was the theme song to a episode of NY Undercover)......

Those classics paved the way to the R album.

Now no one is a bigger supporter of the R album than me BUT without those songs R. wouldn't have jumped off.

I would have to disagree. To the R&B listeners yes, but when you compare sales from 12 Play which was about *6 million to R. Kelly, *5 million up to R, *8 million. based on those numbers i'm guessin that album is what took him mainstream with that song being a major reason even though it was from Space Jam (as well as I'm Your Angel). unfortunately, no album has come close to that since.

the album only sold 4 million copies.....it went 8x's platinum.....big difference (the r album)

12 play did the thing, though the R Double Album cemented his place and CHocolate Factory brought him to a whole new era and made him shine even more.

What album only sold 4 million? R. sold 8 million in the states alone. Overall, it sold 10 million worldwide. I also disagree that R. would've tanked without the success of 12 Play. R. Kelly was already an established act by the time he released R. album.

FOUR MILLION units of a TWO-DISC album = 8 TIMES PLATINUM

Each UNIT that has TWO DISCS counts as TWO sold.....

RIAA recognizes multiple disc albums as selling more than a single disc album
